All ESPN channels will be in HD 4th quarter this year.
Do you have a source for this? I know that ESPNU is going HD in August and have seen press releases noting that, but nothing for ESPN Classic. There have been many rumors about a potential merger with the NFL Network or rebranding it as ESPN 3, going HD, and have a focus on real football (soccer) and other worldly sports.

You mean like the stretched SD TBS-HD fobs off as HD? No thanks.

What's the point, since all the source material for ESPN Classic was shot in "HD classic".... i.e. 480i.
As stated thousands of times on this forum, old SD footage looks much better when broadcast on an HD station. Also, not "all" the material for ESPN classic was shot in 480i. They broadcast "instant classics" that were shot in HD quite often.

And, much of the really old stuff was shot on film. If that source still exists, it can be converted to HD

ESPN classic is a waste of a channel now. I haven't watched it in months. Whoever is doing the programming on this channel has ruined it. They used to show great old shows like NBA,MLB,college football games now we are lucky to get even one college game a week. What does poker have to do with classic sports or highlights from past 60 minute shows etc-american gladiators. In fact I took ESPN classic of my favorties list. Max.P.S. Forgot to mention another useless show Stump the Schwab.

yep....i'd rather watch an sd show on an hd channel than an sd show on an sd channel.

+ like last nite they had the classic 2006 texas/usc bcs championship game....thatd been great in HD.
