ESPNHD - Horizontal line across broadcast

1941 Views 38 Replies 27 Participants Last post by  ansky
anyone else seeing the horizontal sync line across the middle of the screen? It's like the refresh of the top half isn't in sync with the bottom half. Both of my HR20s and my H20 are displaying the defect. ESPNNEWSHD and ESPN2HD look fine.

EDIT: it's much more noticeable while they are showing highlights, especially when the camera is moving vertically. I haven't noticed it during any of their in studio shots.

I too am seeing this on both of my receivers... However, it is only on 206, not on 73...
is 73 still MPEG2? i thought they migrated all of those 70-80 channels to MPEG4?

anyone wanna call customer service and report the issue? LOL. :)

Nope... The MPEG-2 channels are still in place for the legacy receivers... 206 is indeed MPEG-4 though...

hopefully someone with a contact at D* can notify the appropriate people and get this resolved.

I'm sure it's already been noticed and will be handled anon... :)
Hey, with all the extra stuff ESPN puts on the screen anyway, what's another line?

For the life of me, I can't understand why networks cover parts of the HD field with a solid block of color as they do to the left of the racing order ticker or taking a centered graphic and bleeding the background all the way to the left of the screen. Sure, it puts something on the screen so the graphic doesn't "hover" but, call me crazy, I'd prefer to see glorious HD stuff in the background than a solid block of color.

...and that's my Monday morning rant. Thanks for indulging.

i'm with ya... put all that screen clutter on ESPNNEWS. if i'm watching a sporting event i don't need to see all that extra garbage. if i do want to check scores..... i'll use this new fangled thing called the intraweb.

same here
I just had DTV installed, and that was the first thing I noticed (also the first HD channel I put on)
Hopefully it will get fixed by the time for Football.

I would suspect theyll fix it by 2012 or so. Seeing it on all 3 of my recievers.

Along with the usual video breakups every 15 mins or so, which have been going on for years now.

Not seeing the usual sporadic short blackouts that have been going on for years now though. Maybe they have replaced the sporadic blackouts with this nice horizontal line?

I love Directv, theyre the best! It would be nice to somehow discover that this is an ESPN issue and not a D* issue. Because if its a D* issue it will probably never get fixed. If it does get fixed anytime soon we will all be assured that it wasnt a D* issue.

Chances are if its not happening on 73 than it probably is a D* issue though. What a morbid thought that is.

Screw that! When are we gettin' more channels!?!?! :D
Just called in the problem, they are aware of the issue and engineering is working the issue. I commented that once the game starts they are going to be flooded with calls. It is a annoying problem trying to watch a fast motion picture:(
Still there on the spots from the stadium!

Wow, an acknowledgement of a problem from D*? Thats gotta be a first.

You should have asked them if they were working on the sporadic video breakups that have been happening since at least 2004. Maybe theyll get around to fixing that issue by the end of this decade?
I see the line which is on top of the stutter every few seconds.
