Okay. I know these DVRs are supposed to phone periodically, but mine is doing every day, sometimes several times a day and during the daytime. This can't be right, what is the deal? Anyone else seeing this?

And yes I know that it is because I can see the Line In Use light on my phone light. I know it is not anyone else picking up. I confirmed it once by unplugging the phone cord from the DVR and the light went out.

Ever check out DirecTV Active? One of the menu items is "What's Hot". Try it. You'll see a listing of what DirecTV customers are watching right now in real time. Guess how they get the data to update that feature? ;)

To end the annoying calls but still leave your phone line connected so you can enjoy the on-screen caller ID feature do the following:

Call DirecTV and tell them you want to BLOCK VIEWING DATA COLLECTION on your account. If the CSR does it right, it will actually appear as a free item on the web site when you bring up "My Setup". It will also appear as a line item on your bill.

While you are at it, tell them you want IPPV disabled on your account. Then you won't get any "surprise" PPV purchases on your bill as it disables ordering from your remote. Of course, if you really want to pay $3.99 (or $4.99 for HD) to "rent" a movie for 24 hours, you can always order it on the web site.

See what OTHER subscribers are watching?!?! That is a complete waste of time and resources. That must be for those sheep whose lives revolve around what everyone else is doing. Very sad.

Thanks for the tip, you can bet I will have that shut off for good!
