With your ethernet port you can use DOD, set up Media share with WMP11, and TVersity too. This can include videos. It also replaces the phone jack connection in the back so you can order PPV. The HR21 has two ports. The bottom one is for you network connection. The top can be used to "daisy chain" another device if you want to.
DOD=Direct on Demand( DirecTv version of VOD). 2nd ethernet port acts like a hub for another device or receiver. I have an HR20 connected to the 2nd ethernet port on an HR21 and it works great. WMP is Windows Media Player on your PC. You need to share folders (typically your picture, video, and music files) on your PC. With the connection to your network, your receive can access those files via the ethernet connection and you can view them via your receiver and television. There are other features in development and testing that will utilize your network...as an example, in the future it is expected that multi room viewing will be via your network if you have several receivers connected, you will be able to view a program stored on one DVR on another DVR in a differrent room and television. Additionally, you can schedule a recording for your DVR's remotely via the Directv website if you have them networked. DOD....?? Sorry, unfamiliar with that acronym.
I have hr21 plugged into router using top rj45, settings meno tell me i'm connected to internet. Am I doing something wrong? Is top rj45 the only connection of the 2 that will daisy chain? Where are these daisy chain settings? Where are all these WMP11 settings?
