Ok so Directv came and everything is good the Genie is awesome, just had a question I was told they it would suggest shows for me and even record them based on what I view so how long does it take to kick in and do I have to like turn it on or is it auto?

Glad you like it.
Be sure Genie is on.
Go to Menu/Search and Browse/TV Shows/Genie Settings

Once on, it takes 24 hours or so to start populating.
If you see things you don't want, select it and be sure to drop them from Genie.

But it will take a number of days to learn what you like.
