I did a search for this, but apparently I'm not using the right keywords to find the info I need...

I just installed a slimline 5-LNB dish to replace my old 3-LNB dish (I have HR21 receivers). I think I've got a good alignment, but wanted to check the low / 0 readings on some of the spot beams. I'm in the NYC area and I have:

You should never try to check your alignment using 99s and 103s, the numbers are interesting but they don't really tell you much. If your 99c and 103c signals are peaked then your dish is peaked and you will also get 99s and 103s at peak levels. 99s and 103s are not "satellites", they each display signals from two satellites at each location, all transmitting spotbeams. So the higher-numbered transponders at 99s are actually from the same physical satellite as the 99c signals (DirecTV11) and the higher-numbered transponders at 103s are from DirecTV10 which also delivers the 103c signals. The other transponders at 99s are from Spaceway 2 and at 103s they are from Spaceway 1, but the two satellites in the 99 slot, and similarly the two satellites in the 103 slot, are so close together your dish sees them as a single satellite.
So just concentrate on 99c and 103c, if those signals are in the 80s or above then you don't have a problem.

Correct. I wasn't aligning using them - I was just wondering which spot beams were active in my geographic region, so I could tell if I was missing anything. I could have asked "which spot beams are active in the NYC area?" but I figured that asking what other people in my area were seeing for the spots would give me a larger set of answers to compare with.

If you get all the New York HD channels then you are not missing anything. The list of spotbeam transponders you see could change tomorrow as DirecTV moves locals around the spotbeams, and even between satellites.

If you're just wondering which TP is your spot beam, it is most often the one or two with the 100 signal strength. The beam is narrowed and focused at you, so it is the "hot" one on your signal strength meter.

Actually, I was receiving the NY HD locals with my old dish (an ancient one which I upgraded with "LNB C" some years ago - a 101/110/119 unit).

Due to the impending HD obsolecence of my Sony SAT-HD300, I switched to HR21's and the Slimline 5LNB. Since this didn't qualify for the free upgrade offer (due to switching to a recorder from a non-recorder and adding areceiver), and because I'm just picky, I bought the 5LNB dish and installed it myself.
