The only way to make a show portable is to capture it off the analog outputs.

I need to record and make portable a TV show for a close friend. I have a 500GB Lacie external drive that is currently being used to store my music files that I stream from one my PCs. I have a wireless network (not that this makes much difference).
Is there any way I can easily plug in my external drive to my HR20-100 and record this show to it. From there I can handle it, but I'm expecting the DVR doesn't allow this.
Thanx
