new to this, i wanted to know if i can use a rosewill rx-358 v2 esata external encloser with a western digital 1.tb hard drive model# wd10ears inside of encloser with my hr24-500 box.

You should be able to. The only WD drives I've had a problem with on the 500s are the EVDS drives and I haven't tried one externally for a long time.

I've got a (2) WD 2TB AV-GP Sata 32 MB Cache WD20EVDS drives; (1) in a MX-1 case {HR24-500} and the other in the Rosewill RX358 V2 case {HR34-700}. I have had no issues or problems with either.

Been awhile since I tried an EVDS. I only plan to use TT docking stations from now on. I did try an MX-1 with an EVDS and it did the same thing. But that was just after the 24s came out. D* fixes these things surreptitiously, apparently because they don't "support" the eSATA function.
