I haven't put an external hard drive on my HR21 yet but had a questions about it.

Can you play mpeg2 files off an external hard drive?

I've got tversity/media share up and running for a bunch of my kids DVD's I've ripped to my hard drive. It works pretty good but if I could just load them all on an external hard drive it would free up the computer. It's also really annoying when the screen saver pops up during playback.

No, you won't be able to put anything from an external source on an external drive connected to your HR21.

You could, change the setting for your computer's screen saver and turn it off.

It's not the computers screen saver it's the HR21 screen saver. When I am playing video via media share the dvr screen saver pops up like I have something on pause.

Sorry to add another question, but what all can media share do? Maybe I need to read my owners manual again, but I thought it stated that it was only for future, like the sata port? I now know that I can put an external hard drive which I am going to, but not much on the ethernet port. Thanks
