is there a way to extract DVR programs from the DVR to your computer or external drive and is there a way to put media on the DVR from your PC?

Basically, no and no.

The only way to extract is to play it real time and record it with a video capture of some type.

There is no way to put media on the DVR (but it is possible to play media on the DVR, just not record it).

No problem...

You obviously already have your HR2x's networked since your computer sees them... So now you can set up Windows Media Player 11 to host your files for you (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=114861)... or there are some other alternatives in that first link I posted you could try like TVersity or Twonky...
