After an already infuriating day, I come home and turn on ESPN only to see the ad in the attached image. After hitting "exit" it also seems to disable the sport score feature that's normally accessed with the red button.

This is unacceptable on so many levels, I don't even feel like elaborating on it. I guess the question is who needs to be shot for this?

Yep, definitely DirecTV. And it seems to have stopped, as I just tried ESPN again... Probably only happens for a half-hour or hour window of time :/

It seriously makes me consider dropping DTV. I'm already in a pissed off mood because of all the javascript pop-ups on websites these days (as opposed to the old-fashioned separate window pop-ups), including ESPN mobile which I don't visit anymore.

Just makes me want to punch/kick the person who thought this was a remotely good idea. It only evokes hatred for DTV and whatever's being advertised.

If this makes you that mad, I wonder how you handle real issues. Anger management maybe?

Actually I just like to hyperbolize until I get a funny response like yours, then I'm okay... but still in the mood for some boycottin'
There we go. ;)

By the way, what DVR model is this on?

To be fair, that is quite an infuriatingly intrusive advertisement. I thought it was bad enough to see banners in the guide for any pay tv service; but that's been going on ever since the early 2000's with the original (and awful) TVGuide interface on the original Motorola DCT2000.

I feel the same way, if that because a regular thing I'd drop them. The cable boxes are too dumb and slow to be able to display and ad like that anyway.

And movie distribution companies wonder why so many people pirate movies, maybe it's because before you get to the menu there's 9 movie trailers or advertisements. Same idea with the DirecTV ads, I'm not skipping some ad to watch TV.

Huge distracting ads like to are simply unacceptable especially when many people are paying $100+ a month for the service. There's enough ads on television already and they're in the guide as well.

This is a DirecTV dedicated forum. It makes perfect sense to complain about a DirecTV issue on a DirecTV dedicated forum. That shows the poster doesn't need anger management because he is intelligently seeking out people who can best help him with his problem.

If he had, instead, shot up a post office because he saw a Bridesmaids on on DirecTV, I would agree that he might have psychological issues, perhaps relating to the the notion that women can be funny. (I understand Jerry Lewis holds a support group.)

So because we pay, we shouldn't get ads? Ads are everywhere - you can't avoid them.

I didn't say he shouldn't complain. I questioned his level of anger sarcastically and thankfully he caught on. Also, posting on this forum doesn't automatically disqualify someone from needing anger management. It just shows someone can use an internet forum.

I'm saying there shouldn't be ads like the OP shared that are intrusive and are only within DirecTV service. It takes away from the experience the consumer pays for. Ads are all over television which is understandable, DirecTV adds ads over other ads that are aired which is also understandable, cable companies do that too but when it gets in the way of what you're trying to watch it doesn't seem right. The principle alone is enough to make me drop it if it becomes an ongoing event. I've never seen it myself though.

Now, if you got some sort of discount for an "ad supported" DirecTV service, that's one thing.

I was attempting to be funny. My first post "attacked" Dish Network, so it had nothing bad to say about DirecTV.

I assume everyone above the age of, say, 80, understand how the internet works by now. However, I have witness people, innocently, post in the wrong forum, especially in a space like here where forums cover multiple services. I've also read posts that applied to a different service than the one suggested.

Please don't take what I wrote as an attack against sarcasm. I greatly enjoy intelligent humor on the Internet. If I missed it here, it's my fault and I am humbled.

Cablevision has played around with interactive insert-advertisements, as has TiVo, where you can interact with the ad and do other things.

This Bridesmaid ad has three options (Watch TLC, Quiz, and Exit) and it is beyond obnoxious. Obtrusive advertisements like this have the opposite effect intended by the advertisers: it makes me want to stop using their product. It also makes me not want to use channels that serve obtrusive ads like this.

And yeah, I'd be mad too.
