Failing receiver?

Let me cover my basis here before calling D*. One of my HR20-700s seems to be failing. Over the last 3 weeks, I've had to reset the unit about every 3-4 days. The unit is slow responding to all remote commands, changing channels, and recording failed to playback, and when FFWDing through recordings, the time line would disappear on the bottom. Basically after rebooting the unit it works fine for another 3-4 days. I emailed D* but receive a canned response that troubleshooting over email is difficult and they want me to call to further troubleshoot? I guess my question is what else is there to troubleshoot? I fear that I will want to rip the CSR a new one if the first thing they want me to do is reset the unit.

There are a couple of things you could try... 1. Unplug the unit overnight. 2. Try forcing another software download (reboot the unit, and when the blue lights come back on on the front panel, press 0-2-4-6-8 on the remote control)...

If both of those fail, I'm afraid the next step would be to do a 'reset everything'... and then if that doesn't work... calling for a replacement...
it could be a failing hard drive or it's over heating.
some things to check is your signal strenths and check the internal temp.

how to check the internal temp:
menu> Fav's / setup> system setup> info & test> ------- at this point you should see a brief "Please wait message" and now there will be a lot of info on your screen. scroll down in that information till you see the temp reading.

also, while your there. select Sat & Antenna menu to check your signal strenths.
If you have it plugged into your home network, try disconnecting that, too. There have been some issues where the HR2x starts to uncontrollably “spew” UPnP packets and it can cause lock-ups. Some people reported that enabling UPnP support on their routers helped.
