I'm pretty let down with the new product that was installed today. Yes, of course the installer blew 2 appointments, so that didn't set me in a great mood. I got some relief from DirecTV, but my time is more valuable than a couple benji's - these guys cost me about 10 hours of waiting.

Anyway, not being able to toggle between two live tuners really is a let down. I've gotten into the great habit of watching 2 games at a time, skipping through commercials and commentator chit chat, half-time, etc. If you get too far ahead on one tuner, you'll end up getting your scores of your other tuner before you are ready, so I basically scoot about 5-10 minutes at a time from one game to the other. Losing that ability is big to me.

I guess I'll have to try and just record both games and run off 5 minutes at a time out of there. Not as handy, but we'll see how it goes. So far I do like the picture I'm getting, and really like the 30 second skip.

The dual buffers, is probably the #1 requested feature to be added to the system.

First, Welcome!

Second, Check out the UNOFFICIAL HR-20 Tips and Tricks for how to watch two shows at once and a couple dozen other tips. A dozen are not documented.

To each his own... I could care less about dual buffers... We never watch live TV, unless it's sports. I just want to be able to record reliably and consistantly, on a stable system.

No offense to anyone, just my couple of cents.

Dual buffers is key to watching sports or really any two channels at a time. I played around with the HR-20 for one day when I disconnected it. Some called me lame, but I think the HR-20 is a bit lamer with it's missing dual beffers and OTA. I, too, missed many(four) appointments and was compensated as well. I'll connect the HR-20 again when D* has figured out the dual buffers and OTA. We all know OTA is better than MP4. Please don't try to argue that...D*gave me 6 months to let the thing simmer on top of my HR-10 250.

Here's the thing with the tips and tricks dual buffer band-aid...when you toggle back to the other tuner it resets to the beginning of the program. Totally unacceptable.:nono2:

I remember calling you lame. I thought your upfront investment of time and trouble to get the unit would have made you give it a real shot. I also remember how you researched the unit mlobitz, so I thought at that point you should have (or were) completely aware that there was no dual buffer and that OTA was pending.

Yep, I remember calling you lame for those reasons. Glad to see you still around (even if only to disturb), because that tells me the closet with the HR20 isn't quite locked its it?

For me, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't quite figured out how to always get it to remember the place in each game. But, I've started using bookmarks to remember the position. Yes, it's a ton more clicks than dual buffers, but it works.

1. Record both games
2. Start watching one till you want to switch
3. Hit pause and then the green button to create a bookmark
4. Hit list and start the other game and watch till you want to switch
5. Hit pause and then the green button to create a bookmark
6. Hit list and start the other game and if it's not at where you left off, hold down the 30 sec slip key to go to the bookmark and watch until you want to switch and
repeat at step 3

Oh, and I've said it before, but I'll say it again, your trick to watch two shows at once doesn't work (at least for me). When I hit previous, it takes me to live on one of the shows, not where I paused it.

Also, that section in the guide doesn't even make sense. It says to Press LIST and then press SELECT to select the other show, but if you highlight a show and press Select, all that does is take you to the detailed view of that show. It doesn't start playing it. Do you mean to press Select twice to play it? You could also just highlight the recording and press the Play button to play it directly from the list, but doing both ways, neither works to keep you where you are paused in the recordings.

So please either remove this from your guide or update it so that it works.

Since you all are obviously much more in tune with this contraption than I, I noticed in the paper today, this fantastic (looking) Logitech universal remote.

My situation is we have a Yamaha surround sound system, a Samsung DVD burner, and a Vizio plasma HD. All their individual remotes have functionality that can't be cloned (in my attempts, thus far) to the HR20's remote.

Any possibility that there is a universal remote that can take ALL of the functionality/features from each remote and truly work as a universal remote? I'd love to find something that does that.

Thanks again,

Lots of them just look at the ones that can be programmed on a computer.. I have a home theater master. also the harmony series seem to be good.. I have a gallon ziplock bag full of brand new remotes.. If it wasn't for the HTM remote my wife would never have been able to watch tv.

Yeah, I turned the HR20 on it's side and I'm using it as a bookend. Ohhh, I'm only here to disturb...much obliged. Call me in six months when this thing works.

Forget the dual buffers and OTA. I booted the thing up last night just for fun and to download the latest software. It crashed on the restart and just hung there. So I red button reset it and then it lit up...until I tried to record two MP4 shows at once. Check that, one was MP2 (ESPN)and the other was MP4(NBC), we still don't get FOX in Sacto on the sat. Anyway...it froze after 10-15 minutes. Sound with frozen screen/unresponsive remote. I laughed out loud, reconnected my HR10-250 and set it back on the shelf to resume it's duties as a bookend.

I'll keep lurking, if only to disturb...:p
