'Carey concluded, "As we head into the second half of 2008, we are poised to extend our video leadership position as we significantly expand our industry-leading HD lineup with the launch next week of more than 30 new channels, bringing our total HD offering to 130 channels.'MattWarner said:IIRC, they said that some channels will launch next week, but the 30+ new HD channels will be running by the end of the year. I wouldn't expect 30 new channels next week.
Edit: the release says beginning next week. I don't know where I got by the end of the year from. My brain is old..
Because it wasn't just for SatelliteRacer if someone else knew something. I suppose it should have been titled differently. Hopefully I didn't ruin your day.spartanstew said:If this is just for satelliteracer, why don't you PM him?
If it's not, why do you put his name in the title?
But is that everything satracer knows?Sixto said:Everything we know: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1191863&postcount=2

Why does Dish Network have something like 6 HD HBO's to 2 for Directv, and something like 5 HD Cinemax's to Directv's 2? It can't be a delivery problem. Also, I'd think they could launch Encore HD immediately.Satelliteracer said:So the channels that were listed specifically are the ones launching, but there will be more specific ones coming after next week. Discussions continue and in some cases deals are done, but the channels aren't quite ready yet to deliver HD. Hang in there gang.
The smart money is on the fact that DIRECTV is going to be getting MPEG4-AVC directly from HBO. Currently, for the channels that they have now, they get MPEG2 and transcode that to MPEG4 for delivery. This *should/could* result in a more efficient use of the available bandwidth, and therefore improved PQ.JayPSU said:Why does Dish Network have something like 6 HD HBO's to 2 for Directv, and something like 5 HD Cinemax's to Directv's 2? It is painfully obvious that HBO/Cinemax and DIRECTV do not get along. Cinemax has been a "where's the beef" offering for as long as I can remember.JayPSU said:Why does Dish Network have something like 6 HD HBO's to 2 for Directv, and something like 5 HD Cinemax's to Directv's 2? Oh please that's a bunch of baloney and you know it.harsh said:It is painfully obvious that HBO/Cinemax and DIRECTV do not get along. Cinemax has been a "where's the beef" offering for as long as I can remember.
Perhaps you can explain why HBO and Cinemax offer 52 channels (26 in both SD and HD) and D* only carries 14 of them?DCSholtis said:Oh please that's a bunch of baloney and you know it.
How many carriers do?harsh said:Perhaps you can explain why HBO and Cinemax offer 52 channels (26 in both SD and HD) and D* only carries 14 of them?
So we're getting 12 RSN's, 4 national HD's and the rest are PPV channels?? that's 19 PPV channels?Satelliteracer said:The specific channels were mentioned in the press release. Others will be HD pay per view channels and the like.
Let's whip our wallets out! Don't you just love invisible HD. PPV should not be part of the total count. Very misleading. :nono2:juventuz said:So we're getting 12 RSN's, 4 national HD's and the rest are PPV channels?? that's 19 PPV channels?
Did you ignore the rest of it? The PPVs are placeholders as they will switch over to other channels as they are contracted and setup. (Some others are under contract but are not ready technically.)juventuz said:So we're getting 12 RSN's, 4 national HD's and the rest are PPV channels?? that's 19 PPV channels?
Yes, your point? It still does not negate the fact that on August 14th we're getting 19 PPV channels.tonyd79 said:Did you ignore the rest of it?
They're touting some big HD launch, but the reality is it's very minimal for the majority of people. The PPVs are placeholders as they will switch over to other channels as they are contracted and setup. (Some others are under contract but are not ready technically.)
