I just noticed in the latest account info upgrade on the web site a problem with this:

I've had external hard drives for several years now. In fact I have seven. So when this screen says I don't have the feature enabled, I start to worry.... :eek2:

I started with Dish about a month ago, using the Vip722K receiver. The price list I received did show a fee for the external hard drive activation. Did they just recently drop this fee?

On the Dish site it now seems to say that I can just plug in a drive and it will work without any activation being required at all. If that is true, that is great!:D

For all compatible receivers, it is automatically enabled. The 211/211k or 411 are the only receivers with an activation fee (one time $40). Just plug the EHD into an available USB port on the receiver, format the drive (if a new drive), and transfer or play from the EHD. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thanks.

I thought you were paranoid because the receiver that carries the higher fee isn't listed as #1 which is naturally thought of as the primary spot.

What I'm pointing out is that the web site does not show "Yes" for External Drive Enabled. This web page does not show billing information.

It's just a glitch in the web site, but I'm not sure what would happen if someone already had external drives enabled but foolishly pressed the links.

Mine shows No for External Drive Enabled also.

I have been wondering about it too.

Mine too.

But Dish has one of the worst websites I have ever seen out of all of the companies I have dealt with so I am not suprised.

If I can log in to the Dish site I am happy. Many times I can't. I guess Indian programmers are really cheap to offset the crap Dish makes their customers endure.

But on the bright side, I think DIRECTV uses these same idiots to write HR DVR code, so I guess I shouldn't be too upset.

Strangely enough I couldn't get in the dish website with IE9 but Firefox 11 worked.

I'll take a crappy website over a very slow DVR anyday.

Has anybody noticed that the Hopper seems to have been released with very few if any showstoppers. Unlike the 501s.

Phrelin, Mine shows the same way.

It also shows I've had a HD DVR since the end of July, 2006 that means my VIP622 is approaching 6 years old. I didn't get the HDTV until after the 622 was up and running for a few days.

Lets see I had D* on two RCAs and added E* with a 2700 and Stand Alone Tivo. Then I snatched up two Dishplayer 7100s that I used until they couldn't be used due to no longer supported. Had two 501s, a 721 same reason I stopped using it, no longer supported. Vip612 that replaced it in 10/08

Now I'm thinking about the VIP922 Version 2 AKA Hopper & Joey.

I guess I've been on satellite longer than I remembered.

Cheers

I pointed this out to one of the DIRT folks a year or so ago when I was having EHD issues. I believe the explanation I received at the time was that because it was now enabled for everyone the system no longer switched it from enabled no to yes on your equipment page. I additionally pointed out that this could create confusion, here we are:(

Well now, that's interesting. My account says No on EHD enabled and I paid the
one time fee of $40 to use it with my 722; the only receiver I've used it with.
So, the policy changed after who knows how many of us 722/622 users paid the
fee?????

It did change about a year ago. The 211/211k and 411 have the one time activation fee to add the EHD. Thanks.
