Forced to Leave Dish

Well, after more than 12 years with Dish, I am being forced to leave. DSL through ATT is going from $20/month up to $40/month; so to keep the cost of TV & Internet below $100, it looks like I will be forced to get U-Verse.

Kind of messed-up: ATT is raising their prices for DSL, so I get to reward them by switching TV & Internet to them. What a horrible company - oh well, price is king.

I'll miss Dish - excellent customer service, great pricing, and a lot of excellent receivers over the years, including the 721 with keyboard (my favorite, I think). We'll see what happens in a year when my U-Verse contract runs out. :(

Ouch. Are there any other options besides u-verse? There PQ is pretty bad and they have limited HD streams as well :X
Only Cox, and they must be avoided like the plague. Not to mention that their pricing is 3x higher than everyone else put together.
why not contact Dish and explain your situation. Alot of people have a seperate satellite bill and internet.Sometimes this can be as cost efficent and better service. Dish may help you stay. Could not hurt.
Dish announced DishNet last month, you may want to check that as well.

Funny, that would be what I would say about UVerse. A couple of friends have it and don't like it at all. Bad PQ, bad DVR and constant buffering and pixilation have been their main concerns.

Seen it and would go with OTA only if that were my only choice.
Do you have any WISP's in your area( wireless internet service providers) I had "high speed" internet and VOIP through "SKYBEAM" for less than $50/mo.

Now have switched to WiFi through Sprint "Hotspot" $35/mo. I know at&t and Verizon also offer Hotspot type WiFi from $20. I also found Magic Jack and Net Talk Duo WiFi offer less than $5/mo for phone service.

I don't use them but I found www.datajack.com offered a no contract service using the Sprint 3G/4G network.
I've had Dish along with Cox high speed internet for years. Great combo.
I'm using Dish with Time Warner Cable Internet only, VoIP with Callcentric.. Works fine.

Before I got TWC, I was using Sprint/Embarq/Centurylink POTS/ DSL with Dish. Also worked fine.
Is Comcast available for internet? With COX around I bet not. But if so, they usually offer super deals for a year or two.
DSL is eeeeevilllllllle (especially when it isn't offered naked). Unless there are no other options, DSL should be avoided. The only happy DSL customers I know are ones that may do just as well with dialup.

As bad as Cox may be, it is probably better (and possibly cheaper) than DSL.
Well, Harsh, all I can say is you must not get out much. DSL is a very viable option for many of us and will and does provide a fast enough service at a good price, to do the things we want to do.

Currently I'm with Frontier and switched to them a couple months ago when Mediacomm decided their 12mbps service was worth $65 instead of the $50/month I was paying. Now I have 6mbps service from Frontier for $30/month that allows me to do anything I want to do at the speed I need to do them. A couple Netflix streams at once are not a problem, even at their HD offeriings.

And they are offering some higher speeds, at of course higher prices. But I see no need for that at all.

My 10mbps DSL is just fine! Thank you. My local cable internet service is more expensive and caps speed regularly.

In addition to that if he has sprint and is in a 3g/4g area he could download PDANet for droid or iphone and use the phone as a bridge and tether the net to a pc via usb.

This is possible with any carrier, but sprint has unlimited data so you wont rack up a bunch of data overage charges with them xD

This is utter nonsense....I have been a AT&T Elite DSL customer for the last 6 years, rock-solid, and its like $35/month bundled....

I have COX for my internet and pay $28.99/mo. for their unadvertised "starter" high-speed internet. It's comparable to DSL speed.

BTW: you don't need to take their TV to get U-verse for your phone & internet. Yes that bundle looks tempting, but remember it's only an introductory price, just like the cable companies.

Why would you want to avoid Cox like the plague? Here in Cleveland they run a decent service for a cable company. Much better than "Crime Warner" who has the majority of the metro area here.
lol "Crime Warner" first time I heard them called that.
I will be honest I'll probably use that term for the rest of my life lmao.

The bundling is the problem. To get competitive long-term rates for DSL, you often have to overpay for something else.

For me at 25,000 wire feet (but only 2.5 blocks from a multiplexing box), I'm offered 1.5 service for $40 through ItTakesACenturyLink and that's not good. I can get a small discount if I pay upwards of $35 for a land line.

Long term, Internet bandwidth requirements are only going to increase so what is sufficient today probably won't be for long.
Call AT&T -see if you can get a deal for DSL. I did. When they raised mine to $40 I got a deal for $25/month for 1 year.
