They'd be OWNED as opposed to leased. I don't really see any advantage to owning them, but some people prefer it.

I just got word that current and former DirecTV employees are not allowed to sell receivers and those who buy them will not be able to activate them.

I have not confirmed this myself however so let the buyer beware.

This thread confused me a little due to this post.

Actually if you are a former employee you have two choices.
1. You can continue service and the receivers become leased.
2. You discontinue service after employment and the receivers are owned.

I'm sure there is a way around this if you close your former account, open a new account, transfer the owned the receivers over then they will always be owned.

At least the last time I checked this was the case.
