I'll miss Ned a lot. I had the privilege of getting to know him in his later years as a Red Sox broadcaster. He was the voice of the Red Sox that I grew up with until I was professionally involved in baseball myself.
One of my favorite encounters with Ned was at the bar at the hotel where the Red Sox were staying in Chicago. It was late at night, and a friend and I got Ned to telling stories about his days as radio broadcaster for the Duke Blue Devils. The tales he told of traveling around the Carolinas by bus in the 1940's were wonderful to hear.
I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet such a kind, gentle, and funny man as Ned.
