Isn't it mostly a repeat of what is on the FSN networks DirecTV already has? I thought it was mostly a way for strapped cable systems to get programming that they don't normally have.

^^Or eliminate channels that a certain cable provider might not want to provide.

Correct. On the rare occasion that FCS College Sports does have original programming (e.g. a couple of college football games last year), DirecTV did pick up this feed on one of its overflow RSN channels.

Dang, I heard they are showing a replay of a game I wanted to see this morning, so I went to look for it...and learn there's a sports channel DirecTv doesn't have but many cable systems do.

With all the blackouts, that SPorts Pack is virtually worthless aside from ESPNU.

And NBA TV, and CBS College Sports and 2 soccer channels, and outdoor channel. Not to mention that only major college sports are blacked out. I find it highly unlikely that anything shown on the Fox college sports channels is not on an RSN at some time.

Correction then...to me, it's worthless aside from ESPNU. :) I would just add it and drop it, but I have a grandfathered package (TC+), so if I drop it, they are gonna stick it to me and make me change my programming.
Same goes for Starz and HBO. I was going to drop Starz and Sports Pack, and just go to HBO, but it would have cost me about the same.

Oh well, just venting. And, fwiw, this game was not available live. Just shocked DirecTv doesn't have FCS.

FCS sometimes is on an alnternative channel in the sports section but is used only for live games that are not on any other FSN regional network. I remember watching a couple of basketball and football games on ch. 617 or something close to that.

How can you like ESPNU and not CBS College Sports. They are basically the same channel?

Again, FCS is a best of channel that is for cable systems so they do not have to have all the RSNs that DirecTV and Dish have (both of whom need them to give everyone their local RSNs).

I assume you did a search for the game, whatever it was.

That is probably not FCS itself as FCS is programming from other Fox RSNs. It is probably just an alternate feed of a Fox RSN.

Never had a game I wanted to watch be picked up by CBS College Sports.

ESPN likes to throw the random game on ESPNU to garner subscribers.

There were a few CBI basketball games that did not seem to show up on D* this spring due to conflicts on the other RSN's.
(Yes CBI is that new D1 post-season Basketball tourney below the NIT)
FCS is a sponsor of the CBI, While some games did show up on D*, you could never plan ahead and had to surf through all channels as the programming "change" on the guide was always last minute.

FCS is, as stated above, just a version of the Sports Pack's out of market RSNs boiled down for cable's limitations. 99% of its programming is just stuff that is on the various RSNs that are included in the Sports Pack. It shows a few (less than 10, IIRC, last year) original games, and DirecTV spools up a normally unused channel for the game.

The only thing that DirecTV needs to do is just publicize that fact so people would quit asking for a channel they already have.

The fact is, it's not a channel we have. There is a game this coming weekend, and a game the following weekend that is on FCS. The only place a DirecTv subscriber will be able to view these games is on Channel 617 if you live in the state that the telecast is being derived from.

So, the Iowa State game will be shown on 617 in Iowa, and the Kansas State game will be on 617 in KS.

I truly hope that these games will be on elsewhere, but that's not the vibe I'm getting.

This addition of games not on other Fox Sports Net channels is a new development with the announcement you posted a new deal that was just cut two weeks ago.

That announcement lists a channel (617) for DirecTV. All channels in the 600 range are available via the sports pack or via a sports specific package.

If that announcement is truly correct, the game will probably be available. I don't think you will see anything in the guide until later this week (they haven't added the Big Ten Network alternates, either or the ESPN Gameplan games, so you aren't the only one waiting).

However, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't add it (or add it part time) because it is still a channel with lots of duplication of RSN material.
