They are already broadcasting in HD - I believe Time Warner is the only carrier that currently has it.
In spite of the group "DirecTV is criminal for failing to put Fox News on in HD" would have you believe... this plan makes perfect sense..butchd5 said:Bret Baier (sp?) of Fox News said over the weekend that the control room behind him is going to be completely removed as Fox News is going HD after the conventions. This is the first I have heard anyone on Fox News state anything regarding going to HD. Hopefully D* will pick it up when they begin HD broadcasting.
You think DirecTV is waiting for FOX News to convert their studios to HD, and that's why they haven't put it up yet?? You must be kidding. Since when did DirecTV be the judge of "High Quality" HD channels, with a high amount of HD content? DirecTV signs carriage agreements and puts these channels on the air. DirecTV doesn't have a quality standard (or a very low one) for the amount of HD content that is shown. If they did why would MTV HD, VH1 HD, or a dozen other channels ever be on the air when 99% of their content is SD??LarryFlowers said:In spite of the group "DirecTV is criminal for failing to put Fox News on in HD" would have you believe... this plan makes perfect sense..
They leave the studios to go to the conventions, they broadcast from the conventions in HD, and while they are away their studios get rebuilt to deal with HD broadcast...
Seems like DIrecTV wasn't criminal after all....
Wait! They gave you three months of Showtime for free for writing an email to them?!Balestrom said:Oh and they gave 3 months of Showtime.
I was disappointed too - I hope it comes soon, along with Travel HD. The capacity is there now so I can't imagine it will be too much longer. I don't know what the OP heard but it sounds strange, to say the least, considering they already have an HD feed.Balestrom said:+1
I sent an email to DirecTV this weekend letting them know that I was bummed by their choice of content that they released on the 14th. (I know, I know, my fault for being bummed). I just wanted them to know that I considered Fox News an HD priority.
If anything, my hope was to add one tiny voice to the choir.
They did have an interesting response though, in the sense that it was slightly different from the others I had read on this board. I don't have the email with me at work and cannot recall the exact words, but basically it said that DirecTV cannot provide estimates of when channels would be available while they were in the process of negotiating carrier agreements.
Oh and they gave 3 months of Showtime.
Yes they did. :lol:kw2957 said:Wait! They gave you three months of Showtime for free for writing an email to them?!
Yep, they're all out of control with those "ALERT" type banners and announcements. It's all meant to keep you on the channel.jacksonm30354 said:The following is not a political statement but moreso about the programmers choice. The thing I do not like about Fox News is their choice for their program names and banners...
News Alert...Special Report... These terms should be reserved for VERY serious situations/news, not a regularly scheduled program or when Britney gets her hair cut off.
That goes for other channels abuse of the term "Breaking News".
That frustrates me as well. I have a little image burn, noticable only in all white background, on my TV (older model) in the shape of the fox banner at the bottom.tcusta00 said:Yep, they're all out of control with those "ALERT" type banners and announcements. Having been a FNC watcher for some time I tend to ignore their "Fox News Alert" pronouncements. Whenever they deviate from a regular segment they call it that and it's rather annoying.
I completely agree. I am also noticing this as a new trend on CNN. I must see the "Breaking News" tag on the bottom of the screen at least three times a day. It's getting to be a bit excessive.jacksonm30354 said:I think the guy in question was in their Washington Bureau. I believe their main studios are in New York and those could already be HD ready.
Providers don't just add channels because they are there. They have to negotiate compensation and sometimes channel position. Maybe Fox wants to be put hight up in the 200's like CNN instead of their 360 location? Who knows. I think Directv knows there is demand for this channel. It will get added when they strike a deal.
It could very well be it is slated for carriage already.

It's all in an effort to be the "first" "best" and "most informative" station. In this age of instant-information all the stations have the same stories within seconds of each other anyway. *yawn* it's all quite a bore to me. I watch for business news and... oh... the eye candy.kw2957 said:I completely agree. I am also noticing this as a new trend on CNN. yeah, just like seinfeld is in HD on TBSHD, since seinfeld was always filmed in HD right??? RIGHT???? i think there almost needs to be a whole group just devoted to myth vs. facts of HD/digital tv, etc. for the under-HD-educated folks out there....alexjb12 said:cablevision also carries Fox News in HD
I agree, I think the worst "abuse" of the Breaking News alert is when I have seen them do it to announce the stock market has opened for the day.tcusta00 said:Yep, they're all out of control with those "ALERT" type banners and announcements. It's all meant to keep you on the channel.

Seinfeld was filmed using film, which is a higher resolution than HD - which makes it a perfect candidate for HD. It's just that it was filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio which can't be changed.shenefie said:yeah, just like seinfeld is in HD on TBSHD, since seinfeld was always filmed in HD right??? We can start with debunking the myth that something had to be be recorded using HD cameras in order to be HD.shenefie said:yeah, just like seinfeld is in HD on TBSHD, since seinfeld was always filmed in HD right???
