Amazing, what I can view without a receiver activated. I have a TV and Dish 500 and #508 receiver in my shop/garage. The 508 was activated till last fall and had it deactivated. I generally don't watch that much TV in the shop during the winter months....too cold. Today, while I was cleaning up the shop I turned on the TV and 508 to see what was on channel 240 (sports), as it is a free channel. I was running through the channels and came across the HBO (free preview) channels. I found that I can watch these HBO channels free without the 508 being activated. Well!, for time being till the free days are gone.

No here, you must have a loyalty offer as I don't have it on any of my DVR's. LOL

My bad, I didn't realize I'm in the Dish forum, ouch!
HBO generally doesn't do free previews until new shows crop up.
James will show you - it has been assigned Preview status to 15 HBO channels.
Yes it does show up in preview mode on my subscribed receiver I get a picture. On my unsubscribed 811 it shows up as green in the guide but I can't watch it.
Also listed on the preview channel 103.

Why Mon-Wed, instead of over a weekend?

Now is the time to experience HBO FREE for three days! DISH will be giving you a free preview of HBO so you can see what you have been missing. Catch the premiere of The Weight of the Nation, a four-part documentary series, each featuring case studies, interviews with our nation's leading experts, and individuals and their families struggling with obesity.

James missed it ...
James has a day job ... and if one can't wait for an evening post one can always watch http://uplink.jameslong.name/updates/ for near immediate updates. There is even an RSS feed available. :)

I use this link for RSS http://uplink.jameslong.name/updates/feed/ in Google Reader
That could be right, he post wrong domain name ".com" instead ".name" ...
Can't spell my own website ... oh well, something to laugh about.
This is a very good reason to keep your guide list on "My Channels".I saw the Free HBO Preview Monday morning when I ran through my "My Channels" guide:)
I find this website to be very handy for monitoring free previews:

http://www.freepreview.tv/
Dish has their own link:

Another thing that Dish does right, and the other one has yet to figure out. ;)
I was wondering if there was a special promotion going on related to this free preview so I logged on to Dish customer service chat. I just asked the question and was offered HBO for 1/2 price for the next 6 months! I really wanted to see Game of Thrones and catch up on True Blood so I took the offer. It's still $8 a month, but I also get access to HBO on demand which makes it worth it for me.:)
