Looking at the receivers page on DTV today and it says the HD DVR is free. Add it to the cart and it says "special offer for valued customers" - just a $19.95 shipping fee. I already have a HR22-100. Wondering what I would get for free and if it would be worth it?
Anyone done this?
Thanks!
Not me, at least not recently, but I'm sure many have. If I were considering adding another DVR I would jump on it; you don't have much to lose. I doubt you will see a better deal from DTV. That is also the historical pattern.
You kind of have to be a non-customer to get a smokin' deal, although I have not had issues with DTV when adding DVRs. DTV has what they refer to as "valued customers", but that is sort of a bad inside joke; the only customers they really value are people who aren't customers just yet.
I think a couple of years ago when I went from 3 to 4 I got this same deal, so it comes and goes; I wouldn't jump on it specifically due to the possibility it might come off the table unless I really knew I wanted to add a DVR right now. This offer may expire, but another one just like it will come along eventually.
My mother had a receiver replaced with a DVR last week, and she had to part with something on the order of $263 (and also was thrust into an installer nightmare). Personally, I would have told them to "go fish" and waited a month and called back. They are pretty fickle and will give you a deal one day and screw you blind the next. The trick is to not capitulate or cave to the bad deals and to wait for the good deals. Sounds like today might be the day.
