Just got an e-mail today. I'm surprised because i fairly recently just came aboard to DirecTV. I had the Premium channels free for 3 months until i told them, as of now, i like to discontinue which she did. She offered me Cinemax for $7.95 which i declined. I told her i will eventually get HBO and Showtime and will call back when i'm ready. But getting the HD Pack for free 3 months is a wonderful surprise because i used to have Palladia on TWC and i missed it.
Maybe i'm lucky? Because since i've had DirecTV (in May), i've had 3 months of Premiums, and now after a few days, i get 3 months free of HD Pack. I love DirecTV....LOL.

Well, i'm coming from TWC. But having 6 months free of Premiums and HD Pack and free NFL Max for 1 season and $10 month off for refer a friend, and auto pay, and no $6 a month for additional receivers, and with Encore and TMC at no extra charge compared to TWC......oh, and also my Ultimate package is usually $74.99, but i got it for $44.99 for the first year and $64.99 the second year. Having paid over a $100 a month on TWC and getting some free stuff as well and paying much less per month.....well, i'm happy and hope my fellow TWC subscribers consider DirecTV.

I'm one of those people. I've had the HD Xtra Pack since it's inception (minus a couple of months) and have never paid for it.
Uh Oh, you'd better duck! Last time someone said that all the usual folks came out of the woodwork saying doing that is immoral, illegal and against the 1st Amendment!:lol:

I'd probably do it if it didn't involve calling in. The downside of having Classic.

Tis OK. I don't really watch any of those channels anyway, but I like having it "just in case".

Besides, every time I cancel, when I log on to DirecTV the next time it tells me to sign up for 3 free months. I just do what I'm told.

Yep, no call needed here.

Even with Classic, you don't have to talk to a human being. Dial up D* and when the automated assistant asks you why you are calling say, "Cancel HD Extra Pack." If will ask you to confirm (say "Yes") and that is it. Login to your account and add it back.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy...

I think I tried that and it transferred me to a rep. The other day I tried to add the sports pack, but after it gave me the full price, I transferred to make sure I paid the lower rate (already have HBO.)

It'd be even better if they let us just do it online.

I stopped taking it because in the 2 or 3 times I did have it for free I never watched any of the channels it offers. :sure:

The only channel I've watched so far is the Smithsonian Channel. Some interesting programming there but it repeats far too often.

I recently cancelled HD Xtrapack on my account and decided to add it again. In My Programming it shows the option to add it for 3 months free..but when I click on it a shopping cart appears with HD Xtrapack along with an HD Receiver (which is also free) and it tells me I need to get the receiver in order to have Xtrapack. I already have 2 HD DVR's...when I click to remove the HD Receiver from the cart it also removes Xtrapack.

My protection package allows me to upgrade my receivers every 2 years for free and there's a message about that on my account.. but I am holding off until I can get the newest Genie so I don't want to order one now. I'm thinking this is the reason it's trying to force me into getting one? I know I can call.. I just want to see if anyone else has had this issue.

I just upgraded to HD Wednesday and I called in today to see if I could get the 3 free months of HD Pack. CSR said no problem and said it would drop off after 3 months with no action on my part needed to cancel.
It won't fall off after 3 months. It will just roll to regular $4.99/mo.

I ran into that, too. Had to call in and the automated system said something like "So, you'd like to add the HD Extra Pack for $4.99 a month?". I opted out to a CSR and they added it for free. And they were clear that at the end of the three months it would automatically start charging me for it if I didn't call in to cancel.

You also need to be aware of the date when you add the pack.

For example, say your cycle is the 1st to the 30th of each month and you are billed on the 20th of the previous month. If you add the pack on the 15th of the month, you will be billed $2.50 for the period of the 15th to the 30th for the beginning of month 4. This is because you are billed in advance and that would occur only 5 days into month 3 at that point. After you cancel on the 15th at the end of month 3, you would then get a credit back of $2.50, but it could be after you had already paid the billed $2.50.

Yes this is really botched up now. I called last night and spoke to a really nice CSR to cancel my HD Extra Pack after just shy of 3 months, and after about 8 minutes she said it was disconnected.

Woke up this morning and the channels were still on, checked my account at DirecTV.com and said I was still subscribed.

I called tonight and got a different CSR who finally deactivated the HD Extra Pack, and it is confirmed on my receivers.

I then went to re-activate it and got the same nag to purchase an HD receiver for $99.00 to add the HD Extra Pack. I have 12 HD-DVR's on my account and the last thing I need is another receiver, let alone a standard HD receiver! Whoever is working on the DirecTV website revisions has a little more work to do, as things are screwed up. There was no option to choose a HD-DVR on the screen.

Make matters worse, I asked about a GenieGO. The equipment specialist I was transferred to said the price was $149.00, but with a 2 year commitment on my account I could get a special price of $99.00 along with $19.99 shipping charge. I refused knowing the GenieGo (old Nomad) does not extend commitment and is available online for $99 at DirecTV.com and Solid Signal.

I have not had to call customer service at DirecTV for at least six months, but whatever is going on now is far worse than what I have experienced in the past, and the wait time on my first call was over 17 minutes just to talk to an account specialist.

I'm afraid that if I call a DirecTV CSR to add 3 free months of HD Extra Pack that they might tack on another two years to my commitment! I can't take the pain anymore. :(

They've had an extremely high call volume based on the mpg swaps. Wait times should slowly get back to 0.

If you have already had it for free for 3 months over and over, over even just the one time, you have no business getting it for free again, and absolutely no room to be complaining about not being able to get it for free again.
