won't the 1 wb616 cover it all due to its 16 tuners? currently you have 10 tuners and wb616 would have 6 not used.
or is there something with the sd tivo's that won't work?

It probably does not really matter which way you cascade them. Because the WB616 is powered I would probably make that the one closest to the dish but it does not really matter.cody.smith said:Is it better to cascade the WB68 off of the WB616? Or, is it better to hang the WB616 off of the WB68?
Also, how can one ensure that a tech coming out to perform an upgrade will have the WB616 on my workorder?
Silly questions perhaps, but I'm wondering how to achieve the optimal cascading setup for my configuration:
I currently have two powered 5x8 Multiswitches in a cascaded configuration with my 3lnb dish. I have 3 SD Tivos DVR's and 2 HD Tivo HR10-250 DVR. Two of the SD DVR's and one of the HD DVR's are in the same room (!).
- The 4 outputs from my dish feed the first multiswitch in my attic.
- 2 outputs feed the SD Tivo DVR in our bedroom.
- 2 outputs feed 1 HD Tivo DVR in a spare bedroom.
- 4 outputs run to our living room where the second multiswitch resides.
- The living room multiswitch feeds the 2 remaining SD Tivos and another HD Tivo, which are all in my home theater cabinet.
- I'm about to schedule the "Free HD Swap", which will upgrade the HD Tivo DVRs to the new HR2x's.
- I will retain all SD Tivo DVRs and upgrade only the HD Tivo DVRs.
Needless to say, my setup is unique. I don't know of many folks that have 3(!) receivers in the same room, connected to one TV. However, we've had all six tuners in that room recording at the same time before.
I know my 5x8 in the attic will not be compatible with the new 5lnb dish. Likewise, because the new living room HR2x will be in the same room as the SD Tivos, I know I can't use my existing 5x8 multiswitch there either. So, I will have to get D to replace both multiswitches and retain the cascading configuration. Although both of my multiswitches are powered, I doubt D will replace both with WB616's, due to the expense.
So, will signal strength be better in my living room with the WB68 in the attic and the WB616 in the living room? Or, should the WB616 go in the attic and the WB68 go in the living room. Maybe a 6 or 1/2 dozen question here, but am grateful for the input.
Also, anything special I should say to the CSR to guarantee that the tech brings both a WB616 and a WB68?
Thanks!
He only has 4 lines to the one room with all those tuners in it, so he is using one of the multiswitches to get more outputs from 4 lines.David MacLeod said:won't the 1 wb616 cover it all due to its 16 tuners? currently you have 10 tuners and wb616 would have 6 not used.

Poor chance of them having a sonora too I'm afraid..cody.smith said:David, texasbrit, houskamp, and Grentz,
Thank you for your replies! Grentz, thank you for the recommendation on putting the WB616 at the dish and the WB68 in my living room and for confirming Zinwell's documentation on the matter.
Houskamp, you offered up an alternative that I hadn't really thought through before. Splitters off of the dish, with one set of four lines running to my living room, feeding one WB68 in that room, and the other set of four feeding a WB68 in my attic for the rest of the house. This is not a bad idea, though I might be concerned about the length of my runs to the living room and insist that the installer use a Sonora Power Inserter.
I know the installer will unlikely have the WB616 unless I'm able to perform some magic when I speak to the CSR. How likely/unlikely would it be for the installer to have a power inserter?
Thanks again for your comments!
