It has been over a year since I "swapped" my two out. I got to keep both of mine. Paid $1,000 for my first one too. Don't know what the current policy is. But, I can't imagine that they could actually force you to give up "your" HR10-250.

The Ebay market for HR10s has tanked.DogLover said:Can you get more than $199 for it on ebay?
I had one owned HR10 and one leased. They gave me two HR21s and had me send the leased HR10 back to them. The installers are not supposed to take anything. I kept my owned HR10 and kept it active.slumkid said:I got an email from DirecTV stating that HR10-250 will be obsolete soon, and that they are offering me a free replacement HD DVR. Not crazy about losing the dual live buffers, but I have gotten used to my HR20-100 that I have on my other TV over the last year.
The CSR said she needed to set up an appointment for tech to come out and do the swap. I asked if she could just send the box, but she said the tech has to come out to take my old HR10. This is where I have a problem - my HR10 is not a leased unit, I bought it when they were still $1000. I asked here if they have to take my own equipment to get the new DVR, and she said that was the only way.
On top of that, she had no idea if I was getting a DVR with OTA capability, and didn't seem to know what the AM-21 is. Living in South Florida, OTA is a concern.
Does that sound right? Can they come and take my personal property and give me a leased unit? I schedule the appointment, but now I'm reconsidering. Any advice?
Installers are supposed to take ALL swapped receivers. It's users on this board that are misinformed.paulman182 said:Installers don't take equipment. Even receivers that do have to be returned are sent back with a return kit mailed from DirecTV. The CSR was probably misiniformed.
That's weird when I asked installer if he wanted to take HR10 he stated that they are not allowed to take equipment back and if D* wanted it back they would send shipping box.RobertE said:Installers are supposed to take ALL swapped receivers. It's users on this board that are misinformed.
When did this change? Installers in this area certainly do not and it has been repeatedly posted to be wary of installers who do as they may be stealing them.RobertE said:Installers are supposed to take ALL swapped receivers. It's users on this board that are misinformed.

I just "swapped" an HR10-250 for an HR21 unit. I asked the CSR (actually someone higher up then a CSR as I had to go through a few people to get the answers I needed) if they would be taking my HR10-250 because I still wanted to use it in another room. DTV informed me that "BECAUSE I OWN MY HR10-250, THEY CANNOT TAKE IT". They just call it a "swap" because they are replacing that particular receiver in a specific room with a new one. The new units are leased so even though I got the HR21 at no charge (2 of them in fact), I have to pay them a monthly lease fee for the items - so they are still making their money on the switch! Plus, I am adding 2 new receivers (going from 2 rooms to 4 rooms) so I will be paying them additional monthly fees for extra receivers. DTV makes their money by you taking the new receiver and they should have no use for your old ones.jimb726 said:I donmt understand where all of the confusion is. This is specifically called a SWAP. A swap indicates that something is being excahged for another item. It you dont want to give up your item, then dont agree to a SWAP. It contininues to amaze me, people who comment that since they paid 1000 dollars for the unit, there is no way they are giving it up. Fine, don't, keep it. Thats your choice for sure, and I understand it. But to see folks continually harp on this, amazes me.
Maybe in Cleveland that this is true but not the case in So. Cal, since I swapped last month and they did not want HR10 back.RobertE said:It's been months ago.
DirecTv wants them back for a variety of reasons. One is to stop the "swapping" of the same unit multiple times. Another is that it is an actual swap, they give you a box, you give one back. There are other reasons, but I can't go into them.
Anyway, a good number of installers take them because they are lazy. That HR10 then goes into his inventory, which then has to be turned over to his warehouse. Paperwork and time is involved.
