Free install question

I am adding an HD DVR to the bedroom. I know I could probably get the answer I am looking for by picking up the phone and calling DirecTV myself but I consider speaking to those "people" an absolute LAST resort.

My thought is this: I am planning on doing all the install EXCEPT running the cable from the dish to the junction point under the dish where it enters the house.

I basically want an installer to come out, run a line from the dish to the junction point and re-align/ensure alignment of the dish.

Of course I want this to be a cost-free visit (I didn't buy that service plan). My question is if I buy the equipment (HD-DVR)from DirecTV will they do this limited install for free? Will DirecTV do a free limited install if I buy the equipment somewhere else like online or BestBuy?

Or maybe stop the next installer truck I see and offer him $50 to stop by my house and run the cable and check the dish...

Also, I really want a black HD-DVR and you just don't know what DirecTV will send, so I'd prefer to buy it myself.

Your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks.

For a fully functional HD-DVR it requires two RG-6 coax lines from the dish or multi-switch to the HD
DVR unit,The most common HD DVR is the HR21 black unit.

SWM "single wire mode" is available in a small number of areas,Most likely not yours.

Good luck with the install.

I only planned on activating 1 tuner on the new HD-DVR as it is in the bedroom. We have 2 lines/tuners active on the living room HD-DVR.

With my current set-up I have 2 lines from the dish to the living room, a third line from the dish to the basement, and yet unused 4 LMB on the dish (that I intend to use for the planned bedroom install).
DirecTV isn't going to send a non-black HD DVR. You will get an HR21.

I can't see them doing it for free unless they worked a deal out with you to sign up for the protection plan. You never know though. You might as well call and see will what they will do for you.
