I am getting a free install under the Movers program.

I know the install covers a new dish installation and wiring but how fussy about the job can I realistically be?

For example, I want the install on the side of the house (not the roof) and I want the wires run through the attic, not the outside of the home.
I also want 2 coax wires dropped to the living room for the DVR - no fish needed, there is conduit in place.
Is that reasonable?

If anyone knows, what sort of contract extension am I committing to with the free install? I forgot to ask when I spoke with them and am sick of dealing with voice response systems :D

Thanks!

Well...

Mounting the dish to the side of the house is included in the installation provided the mounting location is acceptable and can achieve line of sight.

Wires in the attic: This is a gray area. To start, at the very least there will be a ground block and the wires from the dish on the outside of the house. No way around that, as it is code. Next, if the house is pre-wired and the wires are located in the attic, that should be where they are connected, however D* does not provide for the installer to go into the attic, so you may be charged for custom labor.

As far as the coax to the DVR, conduit or no conduit, it would still be considered a wall fish and you would be charged as such.

Long story short, if the tech is in the attic, there will probably be a charge, but that again depends on the tech and which company he works for. If you want to avoid the charges, you may want to drop the coax through the conduit yourself and have all the lines exit your attic near the utility connection (this would be where the installer should mount the dish due to grounding concerns).

As far as the contract I believe it is 18 months. If you are getting any new HD or DVR's it would be 2 years.

I was just installed a few days ago and I asked a million questions. THe guy did tell me that if the install is more complicated with wiring kind of like what you are asking for then yes they can charge for it its kind of up to the installer. Good luck with it.
