My purpose is to raise DirecTv's awareness that there is demand for a French language channel in their international section - Since I heard that they read this forum.

- If Dish has TV5, why can't D*? Is there an exclusive contract?
- French has to be more popular than a lot of the languages currently offered. So why not French?
- We are not even asking for high-def. Low-def is ok.

if you are interested in seeing one more french channel, make your voices heard. Vote in the poll, and post your comments.

I can't be the only one out there. Or am I?

I would not mind seeing a French language package. You & others who want this package really need to be sending e-mail to DirecTV and tell them what they want. DirecTV has been known to add channels based on customer feedback.
It is the one thing that would make my Mom happy (she is french) and I can't figure why everyone else (cable and other sat comp.) can do it and d* can not. I would get it for her if it was available.
it would be nice to see at least one free french network offered full time.

Je comprends un peu du Français

Moi aussi.

If there were a German channel (Deutsche Welle) I would watch that also.
Can't belive 23 people actually bothered to stop by just to say that they don't care about French channels. Where's the love?
I am surprised by the lack of western Euopean programming on D* It would be nice to subscribe to a British Package, or French or Spanish. I am of Irish decent, so I wouldn't mind seeing RTE offered on Directv.
Personally...if you go down this road...pretty soon you're at 100 different specialized languages....

Which ones do you offer...what is the demand...what is the cost to add these...?

...and French would be one of the lowest on my list.... Pepe Le Pew is the only french speaker I've ever been able to tolerate....:D

I am not saying that you have to offer 100 languages, but French has to be one of the 10 languages spoken by directv customers. If D* already has 20 or so languages, some of them pretty limited in terms of international use, then why isn't French one of them.

Would it be better if the no voters simply kept quiet in order to artificially inflate the poll numbers?
I wrote Directv about the possibility of French programming this is the answer I got:

"Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX,

Thanks for writing. Currently, we're not offering programming in French language, but we continue expanding out international programming to channels from all around the world. Over the course of the next several months, we expect to begin carrying international programming in German, Japanese and French.
Whenever we add channels to our lineup, we release a statement to the press, so keep an eye on the news to find out about the newest channels or visit our website at directv.com/pr.

Sincerely, YYYYYYY

Not voting wouldn't inflate the numbers. I thought it would be nice if folks dropped a couple of lines in addition to voting. Maybe just to help us figure what else folks who visit this board care about.

It seems that new tech like HD and DVR is tops, then Sports, then movies. I am not sure where international programming falls.
I took 4 years of French in high school and can still speak it. It would be nice to have a French language station, although one of the Phily OTA local stations provides a French news feed and one from Deutsche Welle each day.
