My current contract has 4 recievers (1-501; 3-301's). I wanted to buy another 501 or 721 out of my own pocket and use it instead of one of the 301's. However the smart cards are married to each reciever so I'd have to get Dish to reactivate the smart card for the new receiver.

The problem: they won't do this until my 1 year contract is over. Even though I'm still paying for 4 receivers, if I switch one of those 4 to a different receiver they call this a violation of the contract.

Does anyone else think this is stupid? What does it matter that I buy a new receiver and start using it instead? Dish isn't out any money, in fact they made money from me buying a new reciever. I just don't understand why they won't activate the new card to use in place of the old reciever.

Buy an activate the fifth receiver on your account it will only cost you $5 a month for duplication fees at the end of your contract drop one of your leased receivers. You haven't violated your contract and it has cost you about $20, if you can afford the $300 for a 508 $20 shouldn't hurt. READ YOUR CONTRACTS BEFORE YOU SIGN THEM!

I understand I signed a contract and I have to abide by what the contract says, but I'm not talking about taking a reciever off my plan, I'm talking about switching receivers. All I am saying is if this situation is in the contract (I don't have a week to strain my eyes and read the entire 3 or 4 pages, front and back, of fine print) I really don't understand why it is, because its no loss to dish network. In fact its a gain for them because they still get paid for 4 receivers of service and they sell more receivers by people upgrading.

:nono: :nono: :nono: NO NO NO NO NO. I had a customer that was 7 months into his DHP contract. He had 1-501 and 2-301's. He wanted to deactivate 1 of the 301's and buy a 501 outright to put in it's place. I had to make a couple of phone calls, but they done it no problem. Only thing is, your In Home Service plan will not apply to the 501 you buy. Don't let them snow you.

I'd love to not let them snow me but I talked to two different people at Dish this morning for about a half hour and neither of them would budge. I'm not sure what else to do. Apparently its not normally something they allow, but because you are a dealer or whatever, they worked with you.

This just goes right along with my thread on being disapointed with Dish.

I for one have changed my mind, and I am now actively pushing for the merger to be denied.

I have also suggested that the DOJ, the FCC, and members of Congress come in and read what is being said here at DBS Talks and on the Echostar group on the usenet.

As for me a 6 year loyal customer, I am over Charlie and his attitude. And I am proud to say most other people in TN feel the same way.

The merger must not happen until Charlie corrects this problem and many others.

Hey Jericho. Maybe one avenue to pursue would be to call again, and ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. In many companies you'll get someone who is a little more concerned about customer satisfaction that way. (And maybe even a little more intelligent)
