If your PC is wired to the router it hooks up with Ethernet, it doesn't care about G or N.
If you're talking remote PC then it either has an internal card and your driver/application takes care of the interface, or it will connect with an adapter like the DirecTV official WGA600N game adapter then again your PC connects via Ethernet and doesn't care about G or N, except that of course N is faster.
G is good enough for VOD. If you want functions like DIRECTV2PC HD streaming or to be ready for Multiple Room Viewing then you'll definitely want the faster N. Again, I recommend the Linksys dual-band (2.4 & 5 GHz) combo of a WRT600N router and WGA600N adapter.
