I'm watching the replay of the local HS football game on ch. 152 right now. The quality is nowhere near what they show the NCAA in, but it doesn't look like stretch-o-vision. Is it standard def in 16x9? is there such a thing? i don't have the non-HD version to use as a reference.

You could call the local affiliate and ask them how they processed it for broadcast.

I doubt that any local affiliate would/could utilize HD equipment for a high school game. In cases like yours, they usually modify, or zoom, the standard def feed so that it fills the screen. 9 times out of 10, the result is a picture that fills the screen, but is tragically inferior.

The best advice is that with which I lead this reply... make a friendly call to the local station. The tech guys love to 'talk turkey'. You may even find out info about your local stations plans for future HD.

I've yet to see anything on the CBS sports HD channel actually IN HD. Even when they show something 16x9, it's very low resolution.

Not sure what this channel does, but it's pretty bad right now. An HD channel with no HD content.

I have seen one or two college football games in HD on CBS CS, however this past weekend I watched Rice vs Tulsa and it was definitely an SD quality broadcast at 16:9 AR. I believe it was framed in camera to be shown 16:9, there never seemed to be action falling off the top or bottom, but it was not an HD broadcast. My guess would be CBS doesn't have enough HD equipment for some college and high school games with NFL in full swing.

Yeah. My bad on that.

Still, it does not seem logical they'd bring the HD gear to a high school game when they can't cover all NFL and Div. I-A games in HD.

it didn't really look too high def. I guess it was just zoomed to 16x9.
