It's been a very quiet week for satellite TV in terms of news, but observers of the business do have one thing to look forward to before they take off for the Labor Day holiday.

The International Trade Commission (ITC) is expected to rule on the patent infringement case between Gemstar and EchoStar. In July, the commission extended its review of an earlier decision from an ITC judge overseeing the case to Thursday, Aug. 29.

In June, the ITV judge ruled against Gemstar-TV Guide International and its claims that EchoStar and other set-top box manufacturers infringed on its interactive program guide patents. Gemstar asked for the full commission to review the judge's decision shortly after it was released.

The ITC decision was one of a handful of set-backs for Gemstar and litigation efforts concerning its IPG patents. In July, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina granted a motion for summary judgment against Gemstar in a separate case also involving EchoStar.

In another development for the company, Gemstar said Monday it has been notified that it's subject to delisting from NASDAQ.
