it's coming to the point where you can't post anything on this board without getting ripped.

whether it be the location of CNN or a sports channel or what not.. Guys have to rip other guys just to prove a point.

what it should be, is us, the little guys , banding together to help one another. and whether or not you agree with them, it doens't mean you need to rip the stuffings out of them.

this should be a board of assistance. not one of discontentment and piling on..

if you read a post, and it doesn't affect you or you have no true solution, don't jump on it..

if you read a post and you don't agree with the poster.. it doesn't make him stupid.

none of us, myself included, is perfect.

lets all remember that when we approach the keyboard.

Well said. If I may say one other thing... We moderators can't be everywhere at every time. If you see something you don't like, click that little red triangle in the lower left corner of the post and report it. No one except the moderators will see your report, and we do act on every report in one way or another.

I've been called stupid more times than I care to admit...and in some cases...they were probably right. :D

But to your main point, I agree that courtesy is the best policy. :)

Oh, c'mon. You're an idiot. Stupid people should have a new one ripped just because we superior people feel like it.

There are a lot of useful, helpful, intelligent people here. They comprise about 40% of the posts. In order to get at their terribly helpful information, you have to wade through people that:
  • have more time to argue than patience to listen
  • debate simple math
  • make broad accusations with no supporting information
  • like to debate religion (the DLB cult or the 720p zealots)
  • hate DirecTV for not giving away equipment, service and free toasters

All in all, it is worth it. You learn to read the people you trust and ignore the ones you don't. You eventually realize that nobody posts to praise, so complaints are overrepresented.

Of course, you are right. Unfortunately, the anonymity of the web often brings out
the worst in certain people of lesser restraint. Also, it has been my observation
over more than six years on this board that the more anonymously that a poster
presents him or herself to users, the more like he is to be attacked

As a suggestion, tt may well elevate your esteem with other posters if you begin
capitalizing your sentences. Posts made in lower-case are more difficult to read
and to comprehend.

Good writing style may not always be acknowledged, but it is usually appreciated.

Best wishes.

That's such a bunch of BS !!!!

I could not disagree more with you.

Sorry to break it to you, but you are, indeed, perfect.

You have to remember, this board also serves multiple purposes.

It is a place to come to get technical advice. It is also a place where people ask for clarity on DirecTV policies, or just vent about problems they've had, or discuss DirecTV's business direction.

Even an innocuous technical question can morph into a discussion of technical philosophies. So it is not surprising that emotions are a bit stronger on less cut and dry issues, like whether DirecTV should lease or sell equipment.

While most people are willing to accept that others will hold different opinions, there is a human tendency to confuse facts and opinions. "It is 85 degrees today," is a fact. "It is uncomfortably hot today," is an opinion. Facts can be right or wrong. Opinions can't be right or wrong, but opinions can be changed. So sometimes insults start flying when someone writes "you are wrong," when they mean to write "I disagree with your opinion."

I agree with your sentiments but...

As the brunt of many a joke and the bearer of many a joke, I think it is like Nick points out and to go a little further: after being here a while you get the idea of how some folks will post versus others. Mind you, as you point out, no one is perfect, but written words tend to sound differently in our minds versus how they may sound when uttered by a person. Sometimes folks forget to put a smilie or a j/k or simply good friendly ribbing which can be at times read to mean something entirely different than what was meant. You personally can either take it that way or shrug it off. In the end what matters is you and not anyone on this board. That may sound selfish to a point, but there are really only two rules in life:

1) Don't sweat the small stuff. :)
2) Everything is small stuff! ;)

Just my tar pence...

How come this post doesn't have an edit timestamp?

(Or did you manage to get it this well said in the first try?)

Cheers,
Tom
