I have a H20-600 and HR20-700.

I have no problems with the HR20-700, but I am constantly getting 771 messages with the H20-600 over the past couple of weeks (really bad the past couple of days).

I have had good weather and satellite strengths look good. I went around and checked all connections going into that receiver and all is good from dish to receiver.

When I get the message sometimes I can turn the receiver off and back on and it is fine for a couple of minutes. This also can be done by turning the channel up and back down sometimes, but either way get 771 message after a couple of minutes.

One thing I noticed today. This ONLY happens on HD channels. When I tried watching NESN HD today it was unwatchable with 771 coming up all the time, but when I turned to Fox News 360, all is fine and no 771 message.

Any one have any ideas?

Check the bottom of the box for a little sticker about the size of a chicklet. If there is one it should say ECO 2.0. If there is no sticker, or one that is ECO 1 or 1.0, give DirecTv a call and have them replace the box.

I've had this problem on one of my -600's. It was heat-related. You could cook food on top of them. Try unplugging the H20-600 for a few hours, and see how it does when you first re-start. If it runs fine when cool, there's your problem. I run upside-down laptop coolers on all -600's. (Targus PA248)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to unplug it overnight tonight and see what happens tomorrow afternoon. I did put my hand on top of the receiver tonight and it was very hot.

Based on what I find from that, I will test the BBC and see if that is the problem.

Like I mentioned it is only HD related on that receiver (H20-600), so I am pretty sure it is not a dish alignment issue (good signal strength). I have checked all the wires from dish to receiver and they are tight, so I am pretty sure it is BBC and/or receiver related.

I will post details after I test.

Thanks for the help.

See if you get them after removing your BBC(s).

I am having a problem with the H20-600 doing the 771 message. I have checked cables, switched BBC(with H20-100 and HR20-100), did mutliplies reboots, tried the unplugging idea. It will even wipe the favorites list out. I called D* yesterday and they had me do a total reboot(clear everthing). I told the rep it wouldn't work. BUT I have to call when the message is on the screen and my account has been noted. It might not show up for a day or two, then it might happen once or four or five times in 2 hours.

I am having the 771 problem with my HR20-700. It is also spontaneously rebooting on its own. It happens a couple of times a week. I don't have the problem on my other HR20-700. Does the sticker issue apply to the 20-700s? Any other thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks.

No, the Eco 2.0 issue/sticker only applies to the H20-600.

I kept the receiver unplugged overnight and am watching and HD channel now (Cubs Game). So far, so good. Fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Whats is the deal with the Eco 2.0s and 1.0s?
ECO 2.0 stickered ones are ok. ECO 1 or no ECO at all need attention. Can't go into more details, but any FOM or site manager can give you all the details.

Neither do I.
Then those boxes should be replaced.
