Just curious when/how a new network gets added.

I live in the Sherman, TX/Ada, OK DMA

For years we've only had KXII-12 (CBS) and KTEN-10 (NBC). Recently KXII added a sub-channel (I guess its called- a FOX affiliate). You can get on a HDTV as KXIIHD-12.3. Dish has added this as KXIID-20 on our local programming so you can pick it up on any tv with a satellite receiver.

KTEN has added its own sub channel as a CW affliate but its not part of the local programming package. Since the superstations (232,234, 235, etc) are available does Dish Network not consider CW a network station? I know its not included in the Distant Network fiasco going on.

I don't really have to have it since I have the superstations but I was curious what the process was in getting a network or local station added?

Thanks.

You can request it via email. E* may add it someday. Has to be negotiated as it would not be a must carry situation. KTEN may use their main channel as leverage to get the sub channel carried at some point.

I remember when KTEN/Ada was actually *in* Ada, and Norman Bennett on KXII's "Money Shows" in the afternoons.

I'm somewhat surprised KTEN didn't take ABC and put it on a sub channel. Probably because they can't do NBC and ABC high def at the same time.

So that leaves Sherman/Ada without an ABC on Dish Network due to the distant nets thing.

I've been trying to get DISH to add a FULL-POWER must-carry eligible CW affiliate for 2.5 years. They are using a technicality to deny carriage and the crappy company who owns the station won't try any legal tactics to force carriage.

Yep. No ABC. KTEN actually use to be a NBC/ABC affiliate. I'm not sure how it worked but when I was a kid I could remember my dad watching ABC Monday Night Football on channel 10 and then we'd watch NBC Thursday night on the same channel. You never really knew which station would be broadcast.

I've noticed with the Distant Networks getting cut off ABC is the one people have mentioned losing. I haven't seen anyone mention CBS, NBC or FOX specifically. They either lost them all or lost ABC. I doubt it'll effect them much but I wonder if the ratings on some shows (Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, etc) will drop when they return in Jan/Feb.

KTEN "cherry picked" the ABC and NBC schedules... but mostly ABC in the 70s when I was growin' up down by Fittstown.

I don't think that 800K or so "potential" viewers will make even a blip on anybody's radar, unless one or more of those are Neilsen families.
