Hi guys...right now we have the eastern LNB setup. I did not want to add another dish on the roof, so my plan to get 118.7 is to just change the lnb with the with a dish pro 500+ lnb. Its dishes part no. 163060.

Can this be done? Do I have to call dish and tell them to move my channel access since i'll be on 110 & 119 & 118?

Also I see the pro has a built in switch. I have 2 receivers do I need this??? I was planning on getting a cheaper lnb...guess its the old style. It looks like an eyeball and next to it has a braket for 110 I guess.

I think the problem with that one is I would then need an external switch??

This system is in PA.

You won't get any of the local HD channels that way, they're all on 61.5.

You will need a full 500+ kit and a DPP33 or DPP44 switch.

Yes, the Plus LNB will not attach to an EA dish. I would strongly recommend getting the newer DPP500+ LNB with built-in switch versus the old style - it's much easier to install and wire up. As noted - you will lose your HD locals by going to WA though if you get Boston locals. If you get Springfield locals you'll lose them completely. (referencing James Long's website)

The install is not for me its for someone in PA. The HD locals is not a big deal to loose. I though you just break a tab from going to east to west. Is that not correct?

Let's also say I get a whole new dish...just for one satellite?? That sucks. Thats what dish would do if you were in the east and wanted international channels also?

Yes. If you're on EA and you want 118 they add another dish, point it in the other direction and run a cable to the EA dish.

You can get away with that for normal programming (though I don't recommend it), but to get the internationals it's a whole different dish.

Yes, all internationals are being moved onto 118.7 nationwide. For people who need EA, they are installing an EA dish as well as a 500+ dish to pick up 118.7 and winging it into the EA LNB.

What PA locals does he get? Maybe they're on WA too so he'll only need one dish.

The big issue is that the satellite at 118 is a different type of satellite. The dishes designed to receive that lower power satellite are the 500+ and 1000+ ( the same dish but the 1000+ has an additional LNB mounted on it).

If you managed to get a 500+ LNB to get a signal using the wrong reflector (an Eastern Arc dish instead of a plus dish reflector) the signal strength would not be what it would be on the right dish for the job. Each dish is designed for the LNBs designed for that dish. Duct tape, bubble gum and paperclips sometimes works but for a reliable signal get the right dish for the job.

The best you could do on one dish would be the plus dish, assuming you have line of sight to 110, 129 and 119/118. Name the market in PA and we can tell you if HD locals will be lost. Otherwise the normal install for an Eastern Arc market is as gtal98 states: An Eastern Arc dish (77+72.7+61.5) with the 118 feed from a 500+ dish added.
