Want some tips have a 722 hd dvr run HD on main TV SD in my bedroom on old tube set .

What DVR should I get was a DTV customer 5 years ago had a SD TIVO Samsung DVR.

Would like to watch tv on both sets but the TV in the bedroom is used like less than ten hrs a week......


Also is Pandora the only music choice or are there any station provide like XM ?

And is NFL TICKET really included ?

It is possible to drive two sets on one box, but an HD DVR can't drive the SD and HDGUI simultaneously. Otherwise, you'd need a second receiver, but that has a monthly fee.

For the DVR, I'd get the HR34. It's the only DVR except the TiVo one that you can specifically order. It also has some nice extra features.

DirecTV uses Sonic Tap for music channels.

Sunday Ticket free is a promotion, though it would only be for this season, not free in future years.

First off, punctuation is your friend.

If you don't mind paying a little money at your startup, I would suggest the HR34 HMC(5 tuners)with another hd receiver in the bedroom. Auto pay will save you some money with these services.

You could just use a second output if the bedroom is on the other side of the wall from the main set. Using RF you could carry the remote from room to room or have 2 remotes. This option is available with regular HD DVR's(2 tuners) as well.

Pandora is an app built into the receiver. They still offer Sonic Tap music channels in the 800 range.

The NFL Sunday Ticket 2012 is included at no extra charge as the add says but not with every package. Only Choice and above.

Your best bet if figuring out exactly what equipment you want and calling them to take care of setting it all up. You'll want to know what package fits what you watch as well.

If you are going to get a 2nd box, get an HD receiver for the SD tv. For a few dollars more, you can get whole home DVR. Whole home will not work with an SD receiver. The HD receiver will work with your analog tv.

If you want to see what your costs will be, go to the directtv web site and build your package, but don't submit until you are ready to order. That will show you your costs for the first year, 2nd year, and start up costs. It will also show you the promos you will get. You can look at different pricing by playing around with it, including upfront equipment costs.

Punctuation helps get your message, questions or ideas off in a clear and concise manner. It's totally up to you of course, but you look like a jackwagon when you ramble on and on.

I would recommend the HR34 and HD receiver combo as well. You can watch your recordings in the bedroom using WHDVR then. Even if the TV is hardly used, it's nice to have the option.

I also have two TVs running off a single HD receiver. I don't recommend it because if you don't disable the HD resolutions, the SD tv complains about the guide not being able to display properly.

On the NFL ST question, it is included for free your first year. Next season you would have to pay for it or cancel it. On your DVR question, you could simply order an HD DVR and they would send you any of the models they have HR21 -> HR24, which can record 2 programs at one time. Or you can ask for an HR34, which can record up to 5 programs and has at least twice the storage of the standard DVR's.

On the old TV in the bedroom, here is one way to do it. I suspect that since you had a 722, you used the HD and SD outputs from it to feed both TV's. So you probably have coax cable running from the room with your main TV to the other room with the tube set. If so, you could buy an external rf modulator and feed an SD signal from the DVR in the main room to the bedroom. All outputs on the DVR are active, so you could use the composite jacks to feed the TV in the bedroom.

Then you would have to use your remote in the RF mode, to control the DVR in the other room. The limitation would be that you can't watch one program in the main room and another program in the bedroom. They both would have the same program. If you never watch both TV's simultaneously, its not an issue.

Here is an example of an rf modulator that would do the trick [link]. And all this set up does, is let you run a second TV, without having to pay $6/mo for an additional receiver. Since you can probably get the leased SD receiver, for no upfront cost. In the above post, rmmccann has explained the cons to this setup.

DirecTV receivers don't work well with modulators since the update to the HDGUI. They can't output the HD and SD GUIs simultaneously. You can get the picture and sound but the normal guide, menu etc won't show up on the SD outputs without switching to SD mode which also switches the HD output to SD resolution.

Also, as previously stated, you'll have to watch the same thing on both TVs....

Used to work fine but not anymore with the current GUI.

You'll likely be annoyed with the modulator setup but it will save you an extra receiver monthly fee so you'll have to decide.

You'll also need to think s l o w e r with DirecTV receivers. Your current 722 is lightening fast compared to anything from DirecTV. If you go with a standard DVR I wouldn't take anything but an HR24... And don't believe them if they say you'll be getting an HR24 - their screwed up system doesn't let them specify what model you'll get. You could get an HR21/22/23 or 24 when you sign up for an HD DVR.

General things to be aware of when going Dish to DirecTV:

Receivers are slower (Search for detailed posts here)
Caller ID isn't generally reliable on HR24s (Search for detailed posts here)
DVRs are only meant to output to one TV unlike the 722 you have had (as above)
HD picture quality will likely go up a bit and SD quality will go down with DirecTV
Receivers don't work with IR and RF remotes simultaneously - pick one or the other
The HR20/21/22/23/24 receivers can only record 2 channels at once even with the OTA tuner
You can't specify the model of receiver - they'll send you whatever they have new or used

Actually, I have a HD/SD setup from the same HR24 receiver.

RCA outputs to RF modulator. Coax to SD set. 2 RF remotes. (because you can't mix IR & RF remotes, unlike DISH!)

With the new Guide update, I just switch to SD mode when I'm at the computer. To do this, you hold the EXIT button for about 5 seconds.

When I go back to the living room with the HDTV, I just hold the EXIT on that remote, and the receiver switches back to HD mode.

And yes, the SD TV will complain if you try to use the guide in HD-mode.

I see almost every note I could make has already been stated here... I'm just sharing my experience. I also have the SD-DVR upstairs and CANNOT do the whole-home-dvr thing because it is an SD receiver (but it's got HD capabilities?!)

I think the general consensus is if you can deal with the limitations / annoyances of the RF modulator, you can save yourself a receiver fee per month. If you're going to get another receiver, your money is better spent on an HD receiver regardless of your TV type because of the WHDVR capabilities.
