Their description seems to imply it has a 90 min. buffer... while I wish it were true I'm guessing that is a mistake?

Guys, I would like try this. I know what Tivo is and what it does.

Is TIVO a good thing to get VS the Directv DVR?

I don't know the difference.

Would I save money in the long term if I get a Tivo box and just have directv HD boxes.

Or in this case, this has both directv and Tivo in the same unit.
I was also planning on trying the HR 34 when i move to Raleigh NC next month. so maybe this be a better choice?

Currently I have HR24 and 2 reg boxes and the blk swm thing by the router

They used a generic page from a DIRECTV HD DVR. The TiVo only has 30 minute DLB.

DIRECTV's TiVo is not the same as a TiVo for other providers so I would read the first look and the threads in this forum to get an idea of what features it has and doesn't have.

TiVo's cost an additional $5 more per month than a HD DVR or HMC (HR34)so no it would not cost you less.

This is a DIRECTV box it is not a seperate unit like a stand alone TiVo.

Only true TiVo fanatics would really be interested in this box or people who will only have 1 TV with a HD DVR. Otherwise the lack of features compared to the DIRECTV box's don't make it very good.

If you picked up a new Directv Tivo, you would be downgrading from your current equipment.

The TiVo does not have a 90-minute buffer... I can tell you from experience.

I ordered one from solid signal today.
Good choice. It exceeded my expectations. With features like On Demand, Photo & Music sharing, TiVo Suggestions, and Swivel search -you will be well covered for 99.9% of your TV watching needs. You may miss MRV/Whole Home, 3D, and the iPad and TV apps (the iPad app will work if you have at least one other Hr2x receiver on your network.

Just like a regular HD DVR receiver - you can upgrade your DirecTivo's Hard Drive by either attaching an external Sata drive, or simply replacing the internal one (500MB ==> 2TB)

Tivo Suggestions feature alone is worth all the MRV and 3D to me, again - hope you enjoy it!
As I've said before, I have an HR34 and a TiVo and honestly I think they're both pretty cool.
If you buy from a retailer is it considered owned? Directv told i would have to do this so I would not get my contract extended. Is this true?

No. It's still leased equipment.
