We old farts who have been around the block a few times knew that
DoD = Department of Defense. You youngsters need to get out more.

Well, It's been quite awhile since I was called young and I do know that DoD stands for Department of Defense, especially since both parents were in the military (USAF) and I was in ROTC, but sometimes you look at things in a certain context. When on a forum that I use exclusively for Directv news, DOD immediately takes on a certain connotation. In other situations, not so much.
