1) how much do all the movie channel (HBO/Cinemax, Starz/Encore, Showtime/The Movie Channel) packages cost total?

2) is there a way, even when there are locals, to choose not to get them and just get an all national line-up?

Premier is $120 plus other fees.

You absolutely don't need it to get all the other channels, though there are a few channels that require Ultimate. Choice Xtra is a good package to go with for nationals though.

Individually, HBO is $15.99 a month, the others 12.99.

You'd need to tell them what package you want. Keep in mind that while some promotions require a minimum package, you can change it at any time, it's not part of your contract. Only exception is you get charged $10 to drop a premium within 30 days of ordering it.

1) $45 (you didn't mention sports pack)
2) No*

*A very very small amount of people have local channels as a separate line item and could remove them in theory however very few of those people still exist and they cannot get national versions.

So if I ask for choice xtra I will get national broadcast network feeds from new york & los angeles in the 390s instead of the local stations in the 2-69 range?
No, you will never get those unless you live outside of the networks local grade B broadcast contour, AND Directv does not offer those locals to you via satellite.

So if I dvr shows on local networks in my market & move to a different market, what channel name/number will display w/ those recordings from the different market?
The channel they were recorded on from your previous market. New recordings will show the channel from your current market.

DVR recordings are organized by date, or alphabetically, either ascending or descending depending on your choice. The channel number the recording was made on is irrelevant so it wont have any bearing if you move to a different market later on and still have local recordings from the previous market..

What if 2 channels have the same #?
Channels with both SD and HD feeds will have the same channel number. You can choose which one is in a favorites

Additionally, you can choose the option to Hide SD Duplicates. In this case only the HD channel...unless there's only an SD channel.

Since you followed up with this from a question about what happens to local channels if you move, I'm not quite sure Mike Bertelson answered the question you're asking, so let me try:

DirecTV keeps track of things by using the channel name, not the channel number. For local stations, it uses the station's call letters. If you were to move from Boston to Iowa City, Iowa, you would still be getting NBC programming on Channel 7, but DirecTV would see it as being the channel "KWWL" instead of "WHDH," and there would be absolutely no conflict with previous recordings from "WHDH."
