First let me say I love this HR20. I think it is much better than than the TVo. I just
have one complaint. The guide is not as detailed as the TVo was and I don't remember seeing it list a program as a repeat. Who puts out the guide is it DTV
or someone else ?

If I set up for a season pass will the unit know it's a repeat or will it record it anyway? A couple of times I recorded a Program thinking it was a first run only to find out it was a repeat. Other than the guide problem this thing is great.

I have two of them plus an H20. I guess I can sell the HR10's now I wont need them for backup.

Thank you everyone for your input it has made the switch over very easy. If Dtv would put this web site on their site it would cut the customer service calls in half. i hope they know how valuable this site is. I sure do.

Once again thank all of you for the help.

The guide on the HR20 doesn't tell you if it is a first run or repeat, but most times the HR20 will be able to figure it out. Setting up a Series Link as first run will sometimes result in it recording repeats as well. I'm not sure why the guide doesn't contain the same amount of info as previous receivers I've had.

That is helpfull, I must have missed that. However it still does not tell some other info such as episode #, and original air date. That would be mucho helpful when you come into a season show halfway (like the MTV ones that replay all episodes a million times) but don't want to start with a later episode, or record a million and have no easy way of going through to see which one is #1, #2, etc.

Look at the more detailed show description, it will show whether it's a repeat or not.
Mine recorded CSI on Thursday night, even though it was from 2005 and I have it set up for First Run only. The info screen did not say repeat.

If the Guide doesn't show it as a repeat (in either the short or long description), then there's a good chance the HR20 will not know it's a repeat and will record it. The HR20 is Guide-centric...everything it tries to do w/r to programming is based on the Guide data. Now...there could be "hidden data" in the Guide stream that we don't see that might indicate a repeat as well.

In any case, my bet is that since the Guide didn't "know" it was a repeat, the rest of the HR20 didn't either and that's why a 2005 program got recorded as a current episode. Or...maybe there is a "timeout" ...and that a repeat is only a repeat inside the current season? Lots of possible explanations, none of which solves the problem.I would much prefer an "extra" recording than a "missed" recording, so this one is really low on my fix priority list.

I completely agree. However, I also have a SD DirecTivo, which also has a Season Pass to CSI, first run only, and the guide on that receiver showed the show as a repeat, so it didn't record. Why are the two receivers showing different information in their guides?

Add me to the list of those that it didn't record (both of my HR20's identified it as a repeat)

They are actually two different channels.
I am assuming that you where recording on the HD-MPEG-4 channel on your HR20.... that is a different channel, with different guide data then your SD on your DTivo

The only thing I can think of, short of a bug mis-identifing it... is that possible your local affiliate somehow mis-entered or altered the guide data for the HD version of the channel.

Yes, I was recording it off the HD-MPEG-4 channel, so the local affiliate not representing it as a repeat would make sense. I didn't think of the fact that they were different channels. The rest of the description for the shows was the same (I think - I have since deleted them, so I can't recheck).

Thanks for the reply Earl.
