H20 DVI Problem

I tried hooking up a new Samsung LCD to my Samsung SIR-TS160 (which has long been replaced by H20 and then HR20 as the primary receiver) via the TS160-supplied DVI cable, with a DVI-HDMI adapter. The TV was unable to find a signal through this connection, although it works perfectly with a component cable. This is not a huge problem; I'm happy with the component connection. But I'm wondering why the DVI-HDMI hook-up didn't work. Has anyone experienced this type of problem with the TS160 (which, by the way, gave me more problems than the HR20 ever has)?

Just reading the many other posts it seems that Samsung televisions have an issue with using a HDMI cable with any DirecTv HD receiver.
and with a lot of other equipment too - some Dish receivers, Motorola/Comcast cable boxes.....
