I did a search but can't seem to find the exact answer to this question. Does the H21-100 need the RF remote with antenna to be RF capable or is the RF antenna internalized? Thanks.

It has an internal RF antenna. All you need is a RF capable remote.

Which the H21 doesn't come with.
The RC64 is only IR.
You would need either a RC64R or RC64RB

I have an HR21 that I got from BB. The RF worked fine for 2 months with the RC64R remote that came with it. The selector switch broke and D* replaced it with an RC64RB. I programmed the new remote and it work for a short time and now it doesn't work in RF mode. It works fine in IR mode. I have tried reprogramming the new remote several to no avail. Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong or has the RF function in the HR21 just crapped out?

It sounds like you need to reset the remote and then reprogram it.
