I'm trying to hook up a slingbox (SD) at my sister's house.

She has an HR24, and a few H25's.
I need to hook up to one of the H25's.

However, before I go out there, some questions have come up.

Her H25's are connected to the TV's via HDMI.
I know that the H25's have composite out (which is what I need.)

Can the H25 output both HDMI and SD at the same time?

Also, the best H25 to use is in the bathroom, but I'm also about to install the RF kit on that one. Can the H25 work on both RF (DirecTV) and IR (Slingbox) at the same time?

Unless you have the extra dongle/cable for component/composite, you won't be able to connect the sling to the H25.
None of the current HD receivers work with both RF & IR at the same time.

She sent me a photo of the back of the H25.

The H25 has RED/WHITE/YELLOW connectors on the back (Composite) that will connect to the SlingBox.

I understand that the breakout cable is for Component (Red/Green/Blue) only.

So, can I connect to both the HDMI and the YELLOW at the same time.

Also, can I use the IR control when I have the H25 in RF mode?

Nick, the box should output both the HDMI and composite cables fine, I have a Slingbox set up that way. As for the RF/IR remote issue, as VOS said that probably won't work becuase you will be changing the settings within the box to use RF. You might need to use another box possibly, your best option is see if she has one box that basically can be dedicated to your watching. That way you can change channels as you please w/out bothering others viewing.

So that's what I get for not looking at mine. You are RIGHT it's the HD component that needs the dongle.
They still don't work in both IR & RF though.

Thank you all of the quick replies.

As I see it; there are two choices.
Get some kind of IR repeater (or a new RF/IR programmable remote) so that the H25 will work inside of a cupboard.
OR
Get a 2nd H25 and dedicate it to the slingbox.

For an sd sling box a D12 would likely work better.

There are threads here that address issues.

Depending on what you want to watch there are other options. My Daughter lives in an apartment, basic cable and some crazy fast internet included. She attends college so her budget doesn't include HBO or other premium stuff. I dont use HBO GO or DirecTv Anywhere, that dosn't stop her from watching Weeds or any of that other crap that is of no interest here.

I agree with samrs. If you are going to dedicate a receiver to sling, I would absolutely make it an SD box like the D12. There are issues slinging through composit video outputs of an HD receiver (has to do with the HD GUI not displaying).

If you insist on using an HD receiver, then you will most likely want to use either an hdmi or component to composite video converter (to overcome the above mentioned issue).
