Had To Leave D

Well after over 12 years, I finally had to give up Directv. Long story short, no longer can see the SW sky, no way around it. Signed up for Comcast and so far I have to honestly say it is not bad. The price is a few bucks under D for basically the same stuff and the service has been good ---knock on my head! D does have more HD. I have been off D for about 3 months now and they have not sent a return box for my H20 yet. I quess they don't really want it back but I also don't want to see a bill for a couple hundred bucks later.

It has been real folks. This has been a great forum and you guys helped me many times. I hope I was some help when I knew enough to help someone.

Go Skins! -----Maybe they will this year. :)

What satellite positions did you loose line of site to? In case you didn't know, D* is now an all MPEG4 HD service, they converted the old MPEG2 channels on 110 and 119 to MPEG4 so all you need is 99, 101 and 103 to receive all HD and SD channels (unless you need some international channels or your SD locals are on 119).
You should have received your recovery box by now... this happened to me when I upgraded my receiver and a couple weeks after I got my new receiver I called to say the recovery kit hadn't arrived yet and the rep told me the original rep I talked to forgot to order one so she processed the order and it came in a couple days. So if you want to get rid of it, give them a call.
ok who has the "what cities local channels are on 119 sat" link ?

Are all the SD channels mpeg4?
No, the majority are still MPEG2. Some of the newer SD DMA's have gone up on MPEG4 and the locals on the 72.5 satellite are supposed to be migrated to MPEG4.

The dish I had didn't move, I did. My line of sight at my new house is West, North and East. Some would say poor planning for buying a house that could not get Directv satellite service but then some priorities have to change over time. Thanks anyway.
Good luck Skins Fan. Stop by every now and then.

Thanks techrep, it was fun. I will check in now and then. My son will still have Directv so I will still be able to keep up with whats going on. Somebody will have to be here to explain your instructions to newbies. Really, everything is mpeg 4? There is a 99 and 103b? When did that happen?

LOL. I will say that is one priority that will never change for us. Last time we bought a house if it didn't have line of sight we didn't even consider it. Wife is on board 100% as well (she hates cable).

Anyway, I'm not everybody. Good luck and glad Comcast is good for someone.

You can find it here, but not all the HD markets are correct. I could use some help with them.

DIRECTV Locals-In-Locals Availability By City
Hey skins fan:

"Signed up for Comcast and so far I have to honestly say it is not bad. The price is a few bucks under D for basically the same stuff and the service has been good"

Is that some special pricing for the first year? When I was faced with losing a huge maple & oak tree or going to Comcast I priced everything out. I found that having 2 HD DVRs and all the premium channels I was about $40 more per month than DIRECTV.

Needless to say, I finally found a spot on my property where I could hit all, its right on the property line, in the woods, and about 200' from the house, but the project kept me with my sunday ticket!
