Hartenstein Sticks With Thomson Board

The board of directors for consumer electronics manufacturer Thomson multimedia made new appointments in an effort to strengthen its independent membership and to address recent changes in the company's shareholding structure.

The exit of some of Thomson's top shareholders, which included Alcatel, NEC and DirecTV, compelled their representatives to resign from the board. However, Eddy Hartenstein, chairman at DirecTV, has been invited by the board and has accepted to continue as a member in his personal capacity.

Two additional independent board members have been named - Igor Landau and Pierre Lescure. Landau is chairman of the Management Board of Aventis, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. Lescure is a veteran of the media and content industry, markets in which Thomson generates almost 40 percent of its sales.

Thomson's RCA brand is one of the top manufacturers of DirecTV boxes. The company also recently began manufacturing boxes for EchoStar's DISH Network.
