Has DTV changed something so that "satellite auto configuration" won't work any more?

Just installed an Hr10-250 with a 6 x 8 zinwell multiswitch, with my 72.5 dish lnb's attached to the "flex ports".

The Hr10-250 can see 72.5 fine, and sees the locals in the low tens in the guide.

I connected one of my Series 2 Samsungs, which had been connected to a Eagle Aspen 4 x 4 (101 and 72.5) to the new switch, and it could not see 72.5. So I ran "guided dish setup" again and then "auto configuration" (or whatever it's called). No dice.

So I threw in the towel and reconnected the SD box to the original switch and dishes. I re-ran guided dish setup, and auto configure, and the unit insisted it was looking at 101 and 119. One time it saw a "4 port multiswitch" but on another occasion saw a Disecq switch.

Finally, to make sure I wasn't looking at a bad switch (would be a total coincidence), I checked my second identical SD box connected to the same switch, and there was 72.5 and the locals. No problem there, right?

Like an idiot though, I wanted to make sure there was not something wrong with the first Box, so I reran the setup and autoconfig on the second unit. BIG MISTAKE!

Now BOTH SD boxes can't find 72.5!

Does anyone know what could be causing this strange behaviour?

I had this happen to me connect the first box with the second one disconnected and run the satellite auto config it should see the 72.5 after it does and you have your channels disconnect the work box meaning unhook the sat inputs and then hook up the other box and do the same run the sat auto config it should now see the 72.5 bird. if it does and you have all your channels then all you should have to do is reconnect the first box.

Dont know why this works but it just did in my case and the D* tech that showed it to me said he had to do this several times before.

If I understand correctly, you had only one box connected while running the auto config. I never, in fact ran the setup with either switch with only one receiver connected at a time.

I'll give that a try tonight. First I'll try it with the 4 x4 (which I KNOW) was working. If that works, I'll move to the new switch, do the SD boxes one at a time, then finally get the hr10-250 connected and do it. I hope this works. Thanks.
Make sure you only have one cable in the FLEX ports of the 6*8 ....not both from the 18" dish pointed at 72.5

also when you run auto config it goes much faster if you have all the other recivers on channel 100 .......thats what i have found

That might explain continued non success getting the hr10-250 with the new switch working--I have both connected and still get weird stuff--searching for signal on ln-3, not seeing ANY of the three (101, 110, 119) satellites, etc. I'll try removing one input from the flex port. If that works, I'll then use Mavrick's approach of doing the other SD units on the new switch and dish, because that's where I'd like to be eventually anyway.

Meanwhile, using his approach, I did in fact get partial success on one SD with the 4 x 4. I had to do it twice, but it finally came up 101 and 72.5. But after disconnecting the feeds to that unit, plugging the other unit into the other two ports and going through the process, (which did not work with the other unit, believe it or not) the first unit got messed up again.

I am going to swap the switch out just to be sure there isn't something floosie there, and keep trying.
Yes I only had one box connected at a time while running the autoconfig and as urnote96 has said make sure that you have one of the tuners on the tivo box set to 100 and I think I had the other tuner set to channel 201 for this seemed to be important part in getting it to work.

Also as urnote96 said make sure on the 6x8 switch that you only connect one line from the 72.5 dish to the flexport1
There was an problem with the hr10 when they put out the new software.....something to do with not being able to auto detect the 72.5 or 95.....search the forum...i know someone knows about it

I think that has to do with 6.3, which I haven't received yet.

Things are going from bad to worse now though. I removed one input from the 72.5 dish and ran auto config and now it sees 110, 119 and even transponders on 101--not odd, which are rhcp, 13 volts if I am not mistaken. I might have a bad switch in the new 5 lnb dish, or perhaps somehow the zinwell is bad. Too many darn variables.
