I will start off with my setup

56" DLP Samsung with HR21-700 with Receiver and dvd.
50" Samsung plasma with R15 hooked up with receiver and 3 game units
36" sony trinitron
19" Samsung LCD
20" Sony Trinitron
25" Magnavox tube (old)
I pay for the protection plan because i dont want to get up and adjust the dish myself and dont want to pay for receivers either. I have the old Total choice plus package with HBO and Fox Sports and the HD pack extras.

I have the 4 other TV's with no receivers listed hooked up with Channel Plus 3025 RF Distribution and 2 Tivo Receivers R10 and HR10-250

I have a Zinwell 6x16 Multi Switch to power all this equipment.

Here is the root of the problem. Saturday night we had a MAJOR lightning and thunderstorm. Lasted a long time. we had many close strikes. We lost signal for a long while. like 1 hr or more. When it came back up the R10 and HR10-250 were both missing 1 satellite. I reset the receivers and didnt fix the problem. I disconnected all satellite lines and reconnected them. i checked the dish checked the cables nothing. Finally i called D*TV. I usually call them as a last resort. I work in tech support so i know how to troubleshoot and install things. All this hardware (except for multiswitch and dish itself were installed by me).

I called D* and they said it sounded like the multiswitch because the HR21-700 had both satellites working and showing up. The soonest i can get a tech to the house is 8/1. D* says i cant install the multiswitch myself and they cant send one to me. Why? Does anyone know if i can get one sent to me? What this means is i am out of TV on 4 of my TV's. is there anything i can do to get up and running sooner?

Last question, Would it be cheaper to get the premier package then staying with the current setup?

Does swapping the sat line feeds at the switch from the 10-250 to the ones feeding the 21-700 make the fault follow to the 21-700? That will reallly rule in/out the switch.

If it is the switch I'd just go to Solid Signal and buy one myself. But that's just me. I keep a spare on hand because I've had enough of them fry over the years that it's just easier than dealing with having DTV send a truck. Course, YMMV.

Storms have - so far - knocked out 3 of my b-band converters. I would check those by swapping in some known good ones if you have spares.

You could also buy a multiswitch off eBay. I bought a WB68 for $15 several months ago.

DirecTV almost never gives out a 6x16 switch, and the likelyhood of a tech having one to replace yours is minimal. Most techs will be instructed to use splitters and 2 WB68's. Just be aware of that. You may want to try to call the installer/company the day before and note the work order. No guarentee that it will help, but at least you'd have done all you could do.
