HR22 connected to TV via component. This worked fine until DirecTV turned on HDCP for HBO.

Now, when watching HBO/Cinemax (and ONLY HBO/Cinemax channels), the format the receiver is sending to the TV is 4:3 1080i instead of 16:9. All other channels still send the proper aspect ratio over component. i.e.

1) change channel to HBO (501), black bars on side, picture is horizontally squished, TV indicates input source is 4:3 1080i.
2) change channel to Showtime (545), aspect ratio is correct, TV indicates input source is 16:9 1080i.
3) turn back to HBO, picture is still wrong aspect ratio, TV reports 4:3 1080i.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

My 24" Sammy T240HD which I'm forced to now connect by component cables to an HR21-200 due to DIRECTV's new HDCP is displaying the aspect ratio correctly on HBO's HD channels.

thanks for the feedback HoTat2. FWIW, my TV is a Sony 40W3000. I will try this out with a different TV in a few days when I get a chance (though it will also be a Sony).

HDCP is a "requirement", not a choice. DirecTV is being compliant.

thanks for the feedback HoTat2. FWIW, my TV is a Sony 40W3000. I will try this out with a different TV in a few days when I get a chance (though it will also be a Sony).

Brand has nothing to do with a device being HDCP compliant. Age does. Check to see if your other Sony is HDCP compliant.

I understand this, but my TV is supposed to be HDCP compliant. Therefore perhaps I should have phrased my prior statement there as something like;

My allegedly HDCP compliant 24" Sammy T240HD which I'm forced to now connect by component cables to an HR21-200 due to issues with DIRECTV's peculiar new implementation of HDCP on the HDMI connection, is displaying the aspect ratio correctly on HBO's HD channels.
