I currently have a HD-DVR - HR20-700 receiver that thanks to football season has the hard drive almost full. Is there any simple ,easy way to transfer the program content to my home computer so that I can burn it to blue ray discs?

Being new to this forum I posted this in the Dishnetwork forum. Those guys were no help at all.

I second davring's standalone DVD recorder recommendation.

Doing it through a computer is kinda messy because video is handled through the capture card and audio typically has to go through the sound card.

A stand-alone set-top box style DVD recorder is probably the easiest and least expensive way, but you might get better results and other functionality using a computer capture card. Contrary to what Harsh says, connecting the HR20 to a computer capture card is not complicated. I use an ATI TV Wonder 650. It handles both the audio and video capture. I use Pinnacle Studio and the results are excellent. I can tell Pinnacle that I am capturing 16:9 content (if appropriate) and it handles it well. Even using the highest (1-hour) mode on a STB DVD-R, the quality cannot compare to what I can do on the computer even after “stuffing” two hours of video on a single-layer DVD.

Other advantages of capturing on the computer is that you can do some editing if you want (like removing commercials). Also, you can store the video on the computer’s hard drive and then use Media Share to watch it on he HR20.

However, one thing that I don't think has been mentioned (as I skimmed over the previous posts) is that you can't just somehow copy the files over from your DVR to the computer and then work with them. You must PLAY the recording on your DVR and capture the DVR's output in real time on your computer.

So, it won't take any less time to capture the program than if you sit down and watch it.

If you want to archive the games in HD to your computer, you need a Hauppage HD-PVR. Its a USB2 capture box, with component HD input. It comes with software for capturing in HD and burning to blue ray discs (or play the files on your computer or HD media extender).

If you just want widescreen SD, then a standalone DVD recorder is the easiest.

Thanks to eveyone who attempted to help me but makaiguy you hit the nail on the head as far as what I was hoping to do. I was hoping to be able to somehow tap the programing on the receiver hard drive and copy it to my computer hard drive in a 30 minute time frame instead of a 30 hour time frame. I see by your reply I am SOL on that idea so I'll just have to knuckle down and do it the long way. Thanks again to everyone. I truley appreciate the help.
